Interesting Tidbit in Binghamton Paper Today

Recommended Posts

I think Binghamton's Al Walker put his foot in his mouth with his remarks below about his lack of recruiting power down in NYC. Who would ever admit that to a reporter!!!!

I am predicting a sweep over Binghamton this season!!!

Fifth-year men's coach Al Walker grew up in New York City's borough of Queens, played his college ball at Brockport State, and was Cornell's head coach for three years.

"I've been away from the city for so long that I don't have the contacts (in that enormous recruiting market)," he said. "We've chased but we have no juice whatsoever (among) the caliber that we've chased. (America East rival) Albany has done well down there."

Walker came up empty in the Capital District area, Albany's backyard, on recent years' inviting group of what he calls "the low- to mid-major" prospects.

Albany has six players from New York, including both its leading scorers, plus three from Pennsylvania. (Its women's New Yorkers include three from Section 4 schools.) Stony Brook, the conference's third SUNY member, has seven from New York, four from New Jersey on its men's roster.

Give Walker his due! His BU teams have won the last seven against Albany and Stony Brook."
