Love that Dirty Water...

by: Craig Mroczka (3/3/2005)

After every Red Sox victory at Fenway 35,000 strong belt out the words to the Standells classic "Dirty Water". One line of the song talks about frustrated women (I mean they're frustrated). After the first 3 years of America East play you'd think they were referring to UAlbany. However, this year the ladies are lovin' that Dirty Water for another reason. Albany completed the Beantown sweep for the first time in they're America East history with a 70-57 win over BU on wednesday night. The win also clinched a winning regular season for the Danes for the first time since the 1996-97 season. The win over BU also broke last years's record for wins in a season at the Division I level (14). These milestones did not come easy as the Terriers fought hard. Albany opened a 34-20 lead at the break. Maree Jones and Alicia Learn both scored in double figures in the first half to lead the Danes. However in the second half BU heated up from downtown to bring the Terriers to within three. With the score 55-52 with about six minutes left to go Danielle Hutcheson took the team on her shoulders by making the impossible possible and led the team on a 13-2 run to clinch victory. Dani finsihed with 22 points and 15 rebounds, Jen added 17 points including 3 three point field goals to break the Albany record for three pointers in a season now standing at 72 and is only 4 away from the conference record (76), Mookie and Alicia added 11 and 14 points respectively. With Hutch's 15 rebound performance she is up to 255 on the season which is 14 off the record set in '95-'96 by Katie Zeglis. Next its back to back trips to the capital of Connecticut for the ladies. An Albany win on saturday will clinch them a four seed, and if New Hampshire loses out Albany will be the three seed. Saturday at 2 pm right here on WCDB listen to records fall and the Danes vs. Hawks. Coverage starts at 1:45 with me and Matt. Go Hawaiian!!!
