Boston, Mass. -- University at Albany's Luke Schoen won the pole vault with a school-record height to highlight the Great Danes’ performance at Northeastern University’s Husky Winter Carnival at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Schoen set the UAlbany indoor record, previously held by James Nixon since 1993, when he cleared a height of 16-feet, 4.75-inches to place first in the event. The Great Danes won five events on the afternoon.

Junior Joe Greene picked up the first victory of the day in the 55-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 7.69 seconds. The UAlbany 4x400-meter relay team consisting of Greene, Lynval Clarke, Andrew Overbaugh and Felipe Reyes (Christian Brothers Academy) finished first in a time of 3:19.21, qualifying for the IC4A competition in March. Freddie Wills recorded a first-place finish in the long jump (23' 6.25") and Dong Ning Hu recorded the meet’s longest triple jump (44’ 9.5”). Wills also placed second in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 7.79. Wilfredo de Jesus Elias was second in the weight throw (55’-3.5”) in his collegiate debut.

In the women's competition, freshman Tiffany Sprenkels won the triple jump and qualified for the ECAC meet with a leap of 39-7.25. UAlbany received a second-place finish from Brenna Militello in the high jump (5’ 4”). Kadine Johnson finished third in the weight throw with a toss of 44’9.75” and Octavia Clarkson crossed the line third in the 500-meter dash (1:19.93).
