Lillis Has Another Big GAme!!!!

Recommended Posts

6'5 recruit Brian Lillis had 23 last night in a tough 57-56 loss. His team dropped out of a tie for first with the loss! Can't wait to see him play.

6'8 Brent Wilson is averaging 19ppg and 11 rpg according to the Cedar Rapids newspaper. Pretty good considering the game scores are so low! No shot clock in Iowa.

6'9 Joe Dyson is finally getting the ball. He is only averaging 11ppg but 11.5rpg and 3 blocks per game. His scoring #'s keep going up. His team averages 43ppg.

6'2 guard David Bauman is averaging 19ppg and 7 apg for his first place team.

Urbandale stuns No. 10 Dowling

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

An embarrassing loss to Ottumwa last Tuesday was made a distant memory as Urbandale High School's boys' basketball team upset 10th-ranked Dowling Catholic, 58-57, Friday night.........

Dowling's Brian Lillis, who led his team with 23 points, returned the favor by making one of two free throws when he was fouled on the next possession, allowing Urbandale to keep the lead. Dowling quickly got the ball back, though, with 27 seconds remaining by using a press to force Urbandale into an over-and-back violation at halfcourt.

Lillis took the ball to the basket and drew defenders away from an open Alex McConeghey under the basket to take back the lead by one with 16 seconds remaining, only to have Freeman subsequently pump fake off his defenders and put in the game's winning bucket.......

Dowling coach Joe Katich said his team had better take this loss to heart in order to get ready for the coming postseason.

"We told the kids before the game this was an important game for us to play hard in, and I'm real disappointed with not only the outcome but with how our kids played in the second half tonight," Katich said. "We retreated, we didn't play as hard as we did the first half and I thought we lost complete focus of what we were trying to get done.

"We (beat) Johnston and Ames in two straight games, and I think we just thought we could step on the floor and beat Urbandale. If this doesn't get them motivated and ready to play for the next couple of weeks, nothing will."
