SANFORD WARRIORS (10-12, 6-2 Independent Conference)

Coach: Stan Waterman

Tournament History: Won state titles in 1986, 91, 92 and 2002.

Quality Wins: St. Andrew’s, Tatnall (twice)

Key Performers:

Joe Dyson (6-9, SR, C, 12 PPG, 9 RPG, 3 BPG) One of the state’s most dominant big men. “He’s quietly come on and had a very good season after a slow start,” said Coach Stan Waterman. “He’s tough around the basket. I think people underrate him. He’s played very well despite being double and triple teamed.”

Azeez Ellegood (5-5, FR, PG, 8 PPG, 4 APG, 3 SPG) The lightning quick point guard is a certain future star. “He’s done a nice job running the show,” said Waterman. “Azeez is maybe one of the quickest players I’ve ever seen in high school and he has a great a great understanding of the game.”

Billy Bains (6-3, SR, F, 11 PPG) The athletic senior has given the team a lift latein the season. “Billy has played really well for us,” said the coach. “He’s a complete player, explosive with a nice shot.”

Ty Harper (5-10, JR, G, 10 PPG, 15 three pointers) “Ty does a little bit of everything for us,” said Waterman. “He likes to take it to the basket and he’s one of our best outside shooters.”

Tim Hussey (5-10, JR, G, 16 three pointers) and Dane Norwood (5-10, JR, G, 15 three pointers) The junior duo provides great backcourt depth on a guard-heavy team. “Tim and Dane are both good outside shooters,” said the coach. “Their also very good defenders.”

Aaron Collins (6-3, FR, G-F) Rising talent on the inside with a long wingspan. “Aaron is very athletic,” said coach. “He’s a force inside with his shot blocking and rebounding.”
