Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook University Athletics recently completed the installation of a new FieldTurf surface in Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium, replacing the original Field Turf which was installed when the facility opened in 2002. The new, 89,298 square foot surface was provided by Field Turf Tarkett and installed by the Land Tek Group Inc.

Started on June 10 and completed June 26; the project consisted of the removal of the existing playing surface, laser grading of the subsurface in the stadium and the installation of the new playing surface. New features of the FieldTurf Tarkett field include the Stony Brook SB logo in the center of the field, "Seawolves" in red lettering outlined in white in both end zones and red on white yard numbers. The first game on the new surface will take place on Friday, Aug. 21 when the women's soccer team hosts Iona. The football team will play its first game on the field on Sept. 19 against Brown. FieldTurf's patented system has been used in various elite athletic venues worldwide, including more than 50 NCAA installations. In addition, the home fields/practice venues for 21 of the 32 NFL teams, including the New York Giants and New York Jets, use the surface.
