1. I've been dormant here for quite a while, I must say that I'm not thrilled about this at all but I know that WB will land on his feet.

This however is the last straw for me with MB.  I feel like he never made an effort with middle donors and that we were taken for granted as "loyal fans" but our pockets were not deep enough for him.  Sad thing is that many members of the Sec 600 crew are now in the position to be giving at a higher level and we are probably going to balk at it.

His public lashing of SM over the TK1 Insta fiasco where he was "compelled to publicly repudiate" SM's statement about the NCAA Monopoly showed what he is about.  Matter could have easily been dealt with SM releasing an apology statement that says he was acting rashly and responding emotionally and discussed the matter with internal UA staff.  Instead MB grandstanded instead of standing my Marr.  FOH MB, low class move.

So for me this was a dead issue a long time ago, but this gong show just solidified it for me and most of 600 crew, We will continue to support teams but it will be limited to one or two hoops games a year and Lax when my kids aren't playing at their respective schools.

  2. I have to agree with Daneguy here (I hate doing that). I knew what I posted earlier this week would set this off but again, knowing how many folks that are admitted to the bar around here, I think that we would all agree that we need to take a breath, let the due process take course and heed the advise of ATL.

As far as when our program became big time, I think it was right around the time they headed down to Delaware and opened a can of Great Dane whoop-ass on the Blue Hens. That put the program on the map for sure.

    OT- UAlbany09 check your PM.

Just remember to breathe before you post (I can't belive that I just said that)

See you all for homecoming this weekend!

  3. Not for nothing and I know that I am going to get smoked from the flames after people read what I am about to say.

Does anyone find it strange that the DA (David Soanes) and the Guilderland Police Chief (Murley), both people might I add could not investigate their way out of a paper bag were able to make an arrest so quickly? I know that the State Police Lab is right next door but even if a kit is done 24 hours is rather rapid turnaround time. I would ask that everyone reserve judgment here of both the accuser and the accused. As mentioned in earlier posts about a Lacrosse program and their problems, I think that the arrest trigger was pulled rather quickly. Let's face it no other reported rape on campus has ever been handled this quickly.

ATL Dane said it best, let's just step back and take a breath. I just have a weird feeling about this one, there is going to be more than meets the eye.

  4. This Monday is the meeting about the stadium at the Chancellor's office in NYC. How much can we expect to find out about what goes on in there?

If I can get over there I'm going to try and put a glass up against the door and I'll report back :)

Short of that I would not expect to hear much about what is said there. I know that with Admiral Ryan's background, "Loose lips, sinks ships"

  5. I might be seeing things but did the athletic department lower the price of Reserved Child Season tickets from 50 to 30?

Also I like the 5 game reserved package of Bucknell, VCU, St. Bon, UNH and Bing (BPG).  I think $35 dollars ($7 a game) is a good price this could appeal to alot of Alumni who don't live in the area.

    16708

Not for nothing the hardcore alumni that live out of the area still get a full season!

But I think that some of my other friends would have considered the $35 package had I not gotten the 4 seats this year.

    SBU enjoys conference

    ERIK BOLAND

    October 6, 2006

Last week: 2-2; this season: 16-6.

    ALBANY (3-2, 1-0 NORTHEAST CONFERENCE)

AT STONY BROOK UNIVERSITY (1-4, 1-0)

    Tomorrow, 2 p.m.

    Radio: WUSB (90.1 FM).

The matchup: Albany lost, 23-21, last week at Cornell, but has notched impressive victories against Lehigh, Central Connecticut and, most significantly, Delaware. Albany has been average on offense (16.2 ppg), but is impressive on defense, allowing only 14.4 ppg. Stony Brook, by comparison, is scoring 11.6 ppg and giving up 30.2 ppg. No team was happier than Stony Brook to have conference play begin and it showed in last week's 36-17 victory over previously unbeaten Monmouth. Interesting statistic of the week: Despite its punishing non-conference schedule, Stony Brook is plus-3 in turnover ratio with six turnovers compared to nine for the opposition. Say this for the Seawolves, they are not careless with the ball.

The lowdown: A victory here against the conference's preseason No.1 team on its homecoming day would suddenly push Stony Brook into favorite status to repeat as champions. Why the heck not?

    The pick: Stony Brook.

  7. The use of bedouin in your post brought that from a very good post to a great one. Dr. McElroy and Fiore are taking different paths to hopefully get to the same place eventually. When the two of them split in opinion I'm going with Dr. McElroy every time.

I can't agree more with this post. It is clear that Lee has the vision to move this program forward. I must admit the loss of Kermit Hall is huge. I hope that when we find a new President he has the same vision as Lee to take this program forward.

Let's face it, without a conference SBU is going to be in Deep Scoobie Poop. I can't imagine what kind of scheduling nightmare that will be. How many home games are you going to get late in the season in Stony Brook, NY?

Shirley Strum has a different leadership style and she lets her AD push her around (IMHO), there is no way that any sane President would let this happen.

    Like Siena...

    Stony Brook Still Sucks!

  8. 1) Very good point about Fordie. With a 1A job comes hot coaching prospects. With top end coaching prospects comes top end $alaries, a top 1A staff has about 15 guys all making 6 figures (a good friend of mine is on the staff at Purdue) and that  does not include the 500K-1,000,000 the HC makes.. Unfortunatly Albany is cheap. They would not pay big $ to a top end guy and that would lead us down a Buffalo path....we need to be careful with this eventual transition. A top end guy (and I don't mean Chuck Priore....sorry Chuck) will be needed for recruits etc.

    2) But as far as student body, location,  and local community I think a mid tier 1A team would be a great draw and would do well and more importantly it would  be MUCH bigger then Siena hoops. Obviously games with Penn State(Think of that crowd), Syracuse, Army, Rutgers, UCONN, and Buffalo.

    16546

Small steps toward a greater goal. We need a respectable facility first.

That should be goal number one.

The draw for a Penn State, SU, Rutgers game would be great but how many people want to sit on a hill?

I have a hard time believing the woman have sold out, but more power.

So, that means we have 1400+ seats sold already (650 chairbacks on either side, plus about 75 courtside)? That is pretty damned good. Heck, if we can get 1000 students to the games, very doable BTW, and about 700-1000 walk up, also very doable, we should have a near filled barn each game....nice progress.

We SHOULD average 3800 a game....shooting for sellouts. If this team can jell quickly...and the rooks are as good as advertised, a BUCKNELL win would be HUGE for the school; THE Capital District residents are BASKETBALL SAVVY and know the significence of beating a Top 30-35 team like Bucknell.

A loss...would be similar to that of Fordham as far as spirit goes.

    16162

I am going to get my old seats back this year but will only be able to make a limited number of games. Most of the weekeday games are going to be out. I just can't get up there and back in time to be at work.

But every weekend and holiday game is fair game.

  13. ALBANY, N.Y. (August 31, 2006) -- The University at Albany applicant pool for the 2006-07 calendar year surpassed 18,000—a 12 percent increase in freshmen applications above last year and a record number for UAlbany. From that, the University enrolled 2,350 freshmen to the class of 2010—200 fewer students than last year's record class of 2,556.

The smaller class allowed UAlbany to be more selective in admissions, with an acceptance rate of 55 percent, down from 63 percent. As a result, the class has a higher mean GPA of 89.6, compared to 88.5 last year, with a mean SAT of 1146. The University also received a record 4,710 transfer applications and expects to enroll 1,400 new transfer students this fall. Total enrollment is expected to increase 2.1 percent with a projection of 17,399 combined undergraduate and graduate students.

To me the home team and Booing Siena are 2 separate issues.

To me the home team is determined by who's season ticket holders get the good seats. Hopefully, on the next contract it will be changes to a neutral setting like a bowl game or we will get the good seats at least once.

It doesn't matter where the game is to BOO Siena. And with it being their home game, in theory I will have to boo Siena louder to drown out their fans. Well some things work better in theory than in practice, since it had to embarrass them that we outdrew them on their home court last year and had the louder fans even though we lost in OT. I can't wait to see how silent their fans get when we start beating them regularly like we do in almost all other sports.
