1. Ok, I’m going to have to put on my salesman hat to pull this one off...

Next weekend the girlfriend and I are going to be in San Diego.

I was looking at the athletics web site and saw that our Great Danes Men's Soccer team has two matches there.

I'm going to try and sell her on the idea that a few hours at the University of San Diego is time well spent. I don't know what the trade off is going to be yet but before I get too into this, Does anyone know anything about soccer?

I have no clue about it. All I learned during the World Cup is that the clock goes in the wrong direction and there is some ambiguous thing called 'injury time' or 'stoppage time'.

Anyone care to give me the 3 second Soccer rules and maybe something about our team. There was not too much on the web about Albany Soccer unless I want to sign up for the youth league that plays behind Alumni Quad. I think that I missed the age cutoff for that.

What good is a trip across the country if I can’t somehow make it about Great Dane Athletics?

    As always...

  2. As far as I am concerned the play in game is not a bad game to be in. It is the ONLY game on that night and it gives the team a chance to get an NCAA Tourney win against a team that we would be more evenly matched with.

I still say "Why not us?" if we win the predicted play in game. Even though I don't think that we will be 'playing in' as the season progresses.

No mater where we wind up let us all remember that,

  3. Coach Ford is scheduled to be on Dan Murphy's show on Fox 980 between 4 and 5:00 today.

    15626

Coach Ford was also on Paul Vandenburgh's morning show earlier in the week so it is not like we are getting no coverage. I did not hear it so I can't give a recap. As far as coverage in the Siena Times Union, I have given my opinion previously about that paper being a second rate paper and until it actaully covers sports I will always view it as a second rate paper. Most days, I don't even bother to look at it. If they actually have an article worth reading most times someone will post it here or someone at work will let me know.

    15630

At the end of the day The Times Useless is a third rate paper in a second rate market. I rank it slightly above the National Enquirer (for no other reason than they print daily). I would hope that with the NYG in town some of the papers from down this way would start picking up some stuff about the UA GD program.

To this point it has not happened. Give it time. It will happen.

If you build it, they will come....

  4. Does anyone else enjoy reading the updates on Coach Brown’s website as much as I do?  His last posting comes off as real personable and down to earth.  I’m glad he’ll be our coach for at least a few more years.  I wonder if he knows we (this site) exist out here in this little corner of the internet universe.

    15631

I'm sure that coach knows we are here backing him and the program.

Many an insider do read the posts here.

I too also enjoy knowing what Coach is thinking about Basketball in general and can't wait until he gets back for his next post.

  5. I fully well expect a 5-0 record. With 17 or 18 starters(kicker back from 2 years ago...Thank GOD).

I could give a $iena if Fordham is pissed over last year....F@#*K them!  We should be pissed about the last 2 seasons and come out and make a big statement. If I were coaching this team that would be the tempo(screw them all...even Delaware) I would set from day one!

Pat Riley wrote in his book "The Winner Within" that when they played the Bulls with Jordan he told his team to respect Jordan so much that they should treat him like garbage every time down the floor (You remember the NY Thugs? Mason, Starks Barkley all used to mug Jordan everytime they played)

To paraphrase a statemnent from Riley's father to him "Pat, sometimes you gotta go out and just kick somebodies ass!!!!" We should be crushing teams this season with our Defense!

    15530

I am with you, just wanted to be reasonable...something not in my nature when it comes to whuppin athletic ass!!!

    15533

Agreed 5-0 and I plan on being in the stands for each and every home game.

    Maybe some away games too.

Too late - they did when Gallup transferred.

And what has anyone 'wished' on Siena? Like when Will Rogers said that if he ran out of comedy material, he just opened up the Congressional Record, all we're doing is reading the paper.

    15363

Few points from the fat guy....

As many of you know when EJ 'transferred' I said good riddance to him.

He was a pain in the a**, His father was a pain in the a** and I was happy to see both of them no longer affiliated with the program.

Mentioned in a later post was the fact that recruiting is a 'dirty business' I agree, I totally suspect a FORMER UA coach cut an inside deal with this piece of crap primadonna from Gloversville. See you Coach! See you kid! See you Dad! All of you can go fly a kite together!

As far as my 'wishing' ill will on Siena, I do that all the time so my treatment of the Siena program is no different than the rest of the year.

I must admit I think that the UA program has more class than the Siena program. Take for instance that incident that occurred at University Arena (the former Physical Fitness Center) in Hempstead, NY with the Siena Coach and his wife. Coach and Mrs. Brown would NEVER behave like that. From eyewitness accounts not affiliated with either program (Siena or Hofstra) relayed directly to me, Coach and Mrs. Mc Caffery clearly stepped over the line with their poor behavior.

When it comes to poor behavior I say, keep it in the stands where it belongs. Never let it become the face of your program. Of course I have the advantage of not being affiliated with either program I'm just a fan and I never need my wife or girlfriend to stand up for me. I take care of business all by myself. When I get tossed out I take it like a man and head for Broadway Joe's, Side Door Cafe or the nearest local watering hole. My girlfriend gets to stay with my friends and enjoy the rest of the game. That is why we have a pre-planned meeting spot after games.

I think that if Siena fans knew what was good for them they would have been calling for the coach's head after this season. They did not.

I'm a home team guy who always wishes ill will on the Loudonville Community College and all of their ‘athletic’ teams 24/7/365.25 and as I have said many times before....

  7. Hey jon,

    4 out 5 years!

Keep worlking that desk job in L.I.

    Much love.

    15323

I go with Jon, Siena Sucks 5 out of 5 years.

But 4 out 5 years what?

Siena changed their coach or does it only seem that way.

4 out of 5 years the long established Saints underachieved.

It took for them to drop to 6 wins before they could exceed expectations.

4 or 5 years under coach Brown out of 5 UA has improved to the point they made their first NCAA appearance after this past season.

    Good day

  8. Personally I like the way we've been introducing the team via intersquad scrimmage when the football and/or volleyball team/s were home.  We got a bb scrimmage, football, volleyball triple header in one day.  Lot's of fun!!

    14504

True, that is a nice way to introduce the team, but with the media and local momentum coming into this season if the school wants to pump the team and the ticket sales even more nothing would beat a huge blow out at the RACC to get all the students and local fans pumped up for the season...depending on the day I would almost be tempted to drive up from LI for the celebration!!

    14507

What my friend meant to say is that I would be happy to drive up from Long Island for that while HE rides shot gun and works the radio.

To echo his feelings... I'd have no problems making that trip...

    Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow....

    .....Siena still sucks

  9. I do agree that unfortunatley private message boards are like high school, check your first amendment rights at the door as they do not apply here.

But there are two interpretations to that...

1 - Censorship that occurs because one's comments are obscene and nature and generally offensive and

2 - Censorship that occurs because the person running the board just doesn't like what you are saying and basically sticks his fingers in his ears and starts yelling "I can't hear you!!!!"

While I agree with the first kind as no one should be subjected to vulgar remarks that are probably uncalled for (and yes I am probably guilty of a post or two like that, so I do not get offended when censored like that b/c I know I probably deserve it) the second kind is simply immature and childish and I would expect from a board run by Kindergartner's not supposedly college educated individuals.

Let's play a matching game...match the board with the censorship applied...

    BPF = ?

    SienaHoops = ?

I think the answer is pretty clear.

    14480

    BPF= #1

    SienaHoops= #2

DON'T YOU EVER DARE COME OVER TO THIS BOARD AND COMPARE THIS TEAM TO THE DUKE LACROSSE TEAM!  SAVE THAT *siena* FOR THE LOUDENVILLE COMMUNITY COLLEGE SMACK BOARD!!!!

    -Enough said on that issue.

As far as the picture is concerned, this was NOT the official team photo; else the NCAA or the AP would have to get the photo credit.  Since the photo credit is to Bob Ewell (whom does much of the photo for athletics) I am going to go out on a limb here and say this was more of a candid shot.

I thumbed through the magazine the other day and did not even notice the hand symbol.  It was not until I saw the posting here that I looked at it hard enough to see that young adult smile of JW.

I must say that I found it funny (I'm twisted like that) but I do understand why people would find it offensive.  That said and now having spent a few minutes talking to each of these young men on Thursday night I can see how they were just a bunch of college guys fooling around having a good time.  I think that some of the burden lies with the advancement office; they could have done a better job selecting a photo.

To Megowen70, if I were in your ever so insulted shoes keep your freaking check, I'll just double mine next year.  I can't stand people who piss and moan and make threats about not sending their 100 dollar check.  Keep your money and buy a sense of humor with it!

  15. I'm trying to understand the particulars of this proposed tournament from reading posts on the Siena Board, since I have seen nothing about it anywhere else.  The following is my understanding, and I would truely appreciate being corrected if I misunderstand:

The tournament would have 8 teams from 8 different conferences including Siena as the MAAC team and Albany as the AE team.  It seems the other 6 teams could come from the Big East, A10, MAC, CAA, Patriot, NEC or Ivy.  The 8 teams would be divided into 2 pools of 4 teams each.  Each team would play a round robin within the pool and the 4th and final game would be a cross-over.  The first 2 rounds would be plkayed on participants home courts (each team getting one home and one away game).  The 3rd and 4th games would be played at the Pepsi in the form of two separate admission doubleheaders per day.  Albany and Siena would not be in the same session for either the 3rd or 4th round.  The first round would be on the weekend of Nov 10-12; the second round would be mid-week Nov 13-16 and the 3rd and 4th rounds would be on the weekend of Nov 17-19.

The Albany-Siena game would be a 2nd round game at the Pepsi on Wednesday, Nov. 15.

Since Albany is the visitor at the Siena game, i assume that we will get a home game at the RACC for the 1st round game.  I think this means that within a 9 day period, we will get to see our team play 4 times, once at the RACC and 3 times at the Pepsi, which I view as a good thing.

To me, the negatives are having the Siena game mid-week.  The Siena game has come to drawing a fair number of alumni from outside the Capital District; a midweek game reduces the possibility of people being able to travel in and also reduces the opportunities for pre and post game parties.  Personnaly, I much prefer the game to be on a weekend or Friday night.  The other negative is that, essentially our money will be going to support Siena.

    14105

    StateFan-

I agree about the mid week game being a bad idea. I have no problem driving up for the game and then truning it back around the same day. During the week it is just not possible and the AMTRAK schedule does not accomodate us either.

I like the game the way it is now. Over the weekend.

  16. JonUA97, are you the fat guy the paints himself purple at the Smallbany games?

    13851

No, sadly I am a different fat kid.

But thank you for your compliment and your obnoxious smallbany remark all in one post. I am much bigger and more of an (what is a nice way to put this) obscene (I guess) fan. Maybe some of the guys on here can come up with a better descriptive adjective for my game time behaviors.

I am not nearly as creative or good looking as Adam. If I painted myself for the games we all should buy stock in Glidden or Benjamin Moore as it would take at least one gallon of both purple and gold to cover the surface area on this fattie.

Here is a link from another thread about Adam:

TONY...come up with your own creative thought...thank you very much.   And yes, i posted that on the Siena board a few days ago.

At least ask me for the rights to my phrase.  Plagerism is pricey these days...up there in the 5 figure range.

    Dane96 or Tony,

Explain to me what it is about my posts that remind you of MTS. Is he smart, stupid, belligerent, annoying, condescending, funny? I haven’t read enough of his writing to understand the significance of the comparison. And what’s with the love of wrestling?

    13823

Nothing Bosydid...i just think it would be funny. Our boy Jon is a wee bit too angry...and fighting never solved anything...so I figure your cage match could be fun.

Jon, on the other hand, seems to be on the path of eventually calling me or statefan from Albany 1 to get him out after the Siena game.

It sounds like a fund is already being established for me in November....
