  1. There needs to be a cultural shift, where students are indoctrinated to the sports programs even before they attend UA. Orientation should devote an entire day to athletics and really impress upon new students how important (and fun) attending games can be. Marketing needs to be all over Indian and State quads....flyers, email blasts, social media, etc. Have a party bus parked outside each quad before games and shuttle students to the BoFo/SEFCU/JFF in style. Set up a ticket center kiosk at Crossgates Mall as a way to recruit locals...somewhere centrally located, that also sells UA gear, hats, t-shirts, posters, etc. More (and better) in-game promotions and gimmicks. Make it feel like a true EVENT, not just a football or basketball game.

  2. I'm skeptical of tunnels to the PE building. It's relatively far from the podium and would have to be buried pretty deep to clear the track and field "bowl". The podium is just one massive structure and the tunnels aren't really tunnels at all- just the basement really. In terms of practicality it doesn't make any sense. Probably just mis-remembering things, D96..."Brian Williams style" LOL :P

  3. At the risk of being different I would suggest something entirely new. I still think the most interesting part of the campus is that it looks like a starship. I know we have had a mutt as our mascot for a long time but I still like the idea of The Albany Starship. Tell me a bunch of students wouldn't love to come to games dressed as Kirk, Spock, Vulcans and Klingons. Maybe The Albany Klingons!

  4. This is very positive, and something many of us have been talking about for years.

Robert Jones, president of University at Albany, will hire a vice president to oversee the college's branding efforts.

The vice president would oversee media and communications, web presence, marketing and branding, among other responsibilities. Jones outlined the new position at a university senate meeting Monday.

Jones, who has led the 17,000-student university for two years, has listed improving the academic reputation of the college as one of his top priorities.

He says the university is known by several names. UAlbany needs a clearer message about the growth of the college over the past decade, as well as where the university is headed in the future, he says.

UAlbany is developing two new colleges, a college of engineering and a college of emergency preparedness, homeland security and cybersecurity.

  5. You have to understand their readership, which is mostly old adults. The newspaper industry is in a death spiral. UA represents the new order in the Capital District, and young people and young families don't read newspapers. Siena fans are old farts and/or alums. Let them have the TU

  6. Why does Albany Law School need UAlbany to become a public law school? It could easily become a public school without any affiliation with UAlbany. Albany Law will easily survive the current economic "crisis". Albany law could easily associate with Stony Brook, Binghamton or RPI.

Explain how Albany Law could easily become public? Also why would they affiliate with SB or Bing rather than UA? That makes no sense.

  7. In the latest sports network poll looks like we're receiving 89 votes, which puts us at 31st in the rankings. Not bad for a team that was 1-11 last year!

We may not have the prestige, but the team names for the FCS Top 25 are way cooler than the FBS teams: Chanticleers, Jackrabbits, Salukis, Lumberjacks, Mocs, Paladins, Penguins, Tribe, Spiders...and, of course, Great Danes...

quite a few cats, including at least three 'Wildcats'. Are we the #1 dog?
