I couldn’t agree with this article more. And soon Richmond will be gone.  The CAA has become a shadow of what it once was.  And no current team has shown the ability to compete with the Dakota and Montana teams.

Agree with post and article 100%.

When many on this blog were pining for UA to join brook in going to the CAA all sports; I said NO WAY. I was probably in the minority {may have been the only one} who showed displeasure when UA joined the caa for football. OK I will acknowledge the move for football may have been a success {the jury is still out on that IMHO}; but overall, I hate to say I told you so.......BUT.🤫

You can go to 24 teams, give the top 8 byes.  That adds an extra week.  NCAA wants to keep the Memorial Day weekend the Final Four so would have to start the season a week earlier to start conference tourneys a week earlier.  Can Northeast teams start even earlier than they have with winter weather?  Don't see it without cancellations.  Alternative is start as usual but play two regular season games in a week a couple times more to make it up.

ps. Women opened their tournament yesterday 26 teams. No "play-in" games no bye; and they start season same time as men. Also, pretty close to same total number of teams.

NCAA Men" must EXPAND tournament NOW. Find a way--STOP MAKING EXCUSES.

ANYONE know what the plan is for next year; With the N.East conference back an extra auto bid. Is there any expansion being worked on or just 2 "play-ins" ???????????

  3. IMHO. NIL & the Portal are the END of COLLEGE basketball & football PERIOD. IF the ncaa can get any relief/help from the courts, college sports minus BB/FB "may" survive in some format????

I see the need for UA to join the bandwagon; but IMHO only the RICH will get richer from this new model. Even at the highest levels, few if any Colleges make money on athletics. At the mid/low major and even the poorer power 5; there simply is NOT enough tv/steam/nil money to support College Sports OVERALL. Article after article, coaches at ALL levels predicting program cuts and less athletic sports offerings. At mid/low/P5 bottom dwellers there will be NO CHANCE to compete in BB/FB. It took years for a 16 to knock off a 1, you will never see it again. Might as well form bowl and champ divisions [DI, DI.A, DI.AA, etc.]

Cannot see northeast teams starting any earlier. IMHO time to scrap Memorial weekend tournament; but probably will never happen. Might even improve attendance, which has been on a downward spiral lately, if FINALS did not conflict with other memorial weekend activities/events.

Can like you say have more mid week games; and also can do top 8 get first round by with 9-24, play opening games 4games Tuesday then advancing to Saturday; and 4 games Wednesday advancing to Sunday.

In the past this game was referred to as a "Play-In" Game, for you "D", I will make the correction...

Thanks CW. Just think it funny how the ncaa used the term for years in both lax & even basketball. Basketball got creative by mixing up the "play-in" teams with 13 and I think 8 seeds mixed in and even has various expansion plans under consideration. While the stodgy Lax people seem to drag their feet with tournament expansion; even though DI lax expanding # of teams faster than any other sport. Also, as I wrote in my other post No IVYs, NO Army, etc.. Also in inside lax this am and I may have the numbers slightly wrong; but the article said 7 of the top 8 seeds have a combined 38 loses an all time high

Parity has arrived or at least closer. More and more Really GOOD teams are being left out every year. IMHO Army and two or three of the IVYs could absolutely gone final four. With the NorthEast back next year another auto bid on the table. TIME to EXPAND THE TOURNAMENT. There will always be snubs; and mostly especially in basketball the 65-67 "play-in" teams and snubs really have little or no chance of winning the tournament. But in lax IMHO in this day and age pretty much any team in the top 20 to perhaps as high 24or5, would have a legit and competitive chance to be national champs?

    THIOUGHTS/OPINIONS welcomed and appreciated.

  6. QUESTION: What/Why has the NCAA resisted expanding the field. NO at large IVY league teams this year. Army was number 1 in the country for a couple weeks this year--lost in the Patroit tournament. In the past IVY multiple at large teams: Patriot usually 1 or 2; even the AmEast has had several years with at large entries. Almost 80 DI teams now; only 17 spots--RIDICULOUS! DIII has 38 in their tournament?????????

Of course not.  But I do believe in the saying "Adapt or Die". This is D1 sports. If you don't want to try and be successful then go back down to D3.

We will see how it goes but at least on the surface it appears UA wants to be successful.

At some point; University Presidents or Board of Directors or State Governing Boards are going to see that there is not enough NIL or television or streaming money to support ALL Sports at ALL Schools.  Perhaps a few schools but most certainly not many will be able to do so. There will be so few, that those choosing this self destructive route, can have fun “playing with themselves.”

FACT NO (maybe a few) Schools in the country make money on college sports. How long do you think the few revenue generating sports are going to be happy carrying the rest. Eventually some real students are going to start wondering why their tuition is going towards paying for the tuition plus extra for a few.
And if you want to get technical probably ½ or more professional teams either lose money or are supported by their respective leagues. Got to have enough teams to compete; and they don’t have to even worry about running multiple teams like colleges do. Unless of course you count the NBA that for perspective sake has to support the wnba.

Was this the big donor news, or is the field house still in play?

If a NIL is the big news? which is for men's BB only at this point; then not any where near BIG NEWS.

Also, School of Business named after the Massry family this week, who have been big UA donors; but nothing new from them mentioned?

As Lyle said in the article, he ignored it

Racism should never be ignored. Lyle did NOT ignore it, just let his play be his response; and obviously has talked about it often throughout  the years to educate and teach.

I am sure your quote was NOT condoning Racism, just commenting how the current players involved handled it. IMHO UA and the team pretty much handled it appropriately.  Sometimes one must "walk softly and carry a big stick."

watched a good bit of the game. Real chippy.

Had at least 3 skirmishes. Each time UA got the worse of the penalties assessed, even though it seemed incidents were started by mack [hard to tell because off camera mostly.] Same thing happened last year @ UA and as I recall fight broke out after final whistle. Merrimack two time DII champion before upgrade to DI, seem to be trying to bull their way into next level. I think next year they go back to NorthEast Conference. Good riddance; but would not mind seeing them knock off Bryant next week.

  11. Did not see game; but reading inside lax had UA leading or tied for pretty much all of first 35 minutes; before falling apart and/or Yale just turned it up a notch or two?  Inside  also said UA could have been up even more except for 12 first half TO’s like Hof said.

Think/HOPE good early showing gets carried over to Sunday and UA takes care of business against Merrimack. Hope late collapse does not cause UA to be down or play badly in a trap game!

  12. Not a TAX expert; but DOUBT highly whether a NIL is tax deductible. Your GDAC seat requirement is NOT, why would a NIL be?

Someone on this blog must be a tax lawyer or investment expert. Thoughts/opinions??

For what it worth IMHO, I rather build with freshman. And would be 100% against UA participating in a NIL. I'm sure I am in a minority. Rather support DII or lll if it comes to that. You all can have the portal and professional paid athletes; give me Doc Sauers and kids who loved to play and appreciated a chance to earn a degree.
