  1. Lets get to the "Dance" - once there I wouldn't care who we played.

I'd be a "Happy Camper" just hearing UA's name when they announce the brackets.

Of course once the Brackets were announced, my expectations might rise. Why not a major upset and a run at the "Sweet Sixteen"?????

Only kidding, who ever we draw we will be a "MAJOR UnderDog"!!!! But we will feel what it's like to participate.

But all that is lightyears away, lets win a few more games and be ready for the AE Tourney.

  2. Jacob Iati led undefeated York Catholic over previously undefeated Reading Central Catholic 71-66.

Jacob (Soph) had 24 pts. (Jacob is avg about 19ppg)

Siena recruit Alex Franklin (Sr.) had 19 for Reading.

    Lets get Jacob signed early.

    This is getting old

It pains me to say this, but we were simply outplayed by Albany last night. Sure, a few things did go our way. Our shots just weren't falling, but we didn't have many good looks from the outside anyway, thanks to a good perimeter defense by Albany. As for our inside game, I've never seen so many missed lay-ups. There aren't any excuses for this loss.

One thing is for sure, the youth of our team is really showing, especially when it comes down to the last 2 minutes. It seems our game completely falls apart every time towards the end. The final score was 53-47, but it was closer than a 6 point game leads you to believe. We took bad shots and we turned it over. Macon didn't seem like he was able to lead the team at the end of the game. When down bby 4 with 30 seconds left, we can't be taking 20 seconds to get a shot off. Those kinds of things can't happen at the end of the game.

But we made mistakes early in the game too. KG, Omari, Cob (still looking for a decent nickname for Ben), and eventually Gaffney got into foul trouble early. Wayyyyyy to early. How we ended up with the lead at half-time is beyond me, because it seemed like Albany was in control for most of the game.

I'm not quite sure how to get over this loss. Albany is a quality, and there is no doubt in my mind that they're the team to beat this year.

  4. I think it would have been beneficial if some of the guys could get some rest....

Brian Lillis probably still has fresh legs.

Jamar is a work horse and probably can handle it for now.

Brent is the guy who needs rest he's a big guy who throughs his body around alot and that takes its toll.

The good thing was that Lu only played 16minutes and Zo 23 minutes.

Good to see Iati and Levi log 21 & 22 minutes respetively.

Covington(9) and Siggers(7) got some minutes and I'm hoping by tourney time that they are both playing 11 or 12 minutes a game, that will ensure us a deep rotation with alot of fresh legs.

  5. NYR - welcome, it's always good to have interested, intelligent posters on this site.

Jamar in the past has been a turnover waiting to happen, sometimes he goes on adrenalin and doesn't make the best decisions but it is very evident he is talented.

(Roy of the Year as a frosh and 2nd Team All AE last year dispite his TO problems.)

Player of the Week for this past week - 10 assists 6 turnovers - 14/24 FG including 4/8 from three - 13/15 from the FT Line - numbers like that will get you some accolades now & then, especially when every coach comes in trying to contain you.

I don't care who runs the point as long as Jamar is on the court most of the time. At the toughest times, when the shot clock is running down Jamar usually has the ball and this sometimes leads to TOs but with this group I think I wouldn't want it any other way he is one of our only players who can create a shot for himself.

  6. McFan - your meaningless opinion and my meaningless opinion fuel boards like this and are healthy and even sometimes interesting (well maybe not mine).

I would believe every coach would, if asked, like to play more players and get more guys into games but from the games I watch on TV, etc. and from my perspective Coach K doesn't even get it done.

I think this is DI Hoop and like it or not it more business like. The kids reward is his scholarship (and from what I read, see and hear it's really a fulltime job and not a free ride) with each scholarship comes the opportunity to compete for playing time

  7. It's amazing how we as "Fans" can all speculate on what is going on and what should be done and our decisions are meaningless personal opinions.

First off there was no pushing and shoving that I saw between Bofia and Brent. Brent was coming to Lillis's aid and was stopped short of getting involved but his actions or words got him a "T". From my point of view - There was nothing apparent to me that made me think that the situation would erupt into Bofia's reaction. Hindsight is always better than foresight.

Second most of us would have all liked to see Bauman get a few minutes but that's a coach's decision - we don't know what's going on behind the scenes. Evidently Bauman and Brown know better than we do. Bauman if he was unhappy would have seen the handwriting on the wall last season. If he wasn't sure last year he would have known by now especially with the return of Iati and the addition of Siggers. I think his staying after the first semester informs us that he likes Albany as a school.

Third the whole coaching staff has their careers on the line. If the Head Coach is let go the new Coach will probaly bring in his own staff. A comfortable lead for us may not be so comfortable too the coaching staff. I would believe if my career was in limbo I would go with the guys who are my "security blanket" and stick with them probably to long in a semi blowout (last 6 minutes) and then feel some remorse that Jared, Bauman or Connelly didn't get a couple more minutes.

Just my thoughts, I'm sure there is alot of anxiety affecting the Men's Program.

  8. At 5PM our ladies take on a powerful Hartford squad in their first AE Conference game.

This should be interesting as the Lady Danes who are 4-7 (but their wins have come against teams with a composite 6-41 records) are facing the top rated AE Team.

I've been surprised at the limited time 6'4" highly touted Turkish import Devran Tanacan has been getting. I guess I expected her to come in and replace Danielle right away, but it seems she's only getting 12 min pg.

At 7PM the men will host Maine a very dangerous perimeter team. The men will be seeking to go 4-0 in conference.

It should be interesting to see if Iati, Levine, Siggers or even Lu have a breakout games on the offensive end. Defense has gotten us where are in conference but the offense seems to be struggling and inconsistent.

It's all done or in the works plus more to come, I'm sure.

UA's infant DI Program is just leaving the crawling stage and will be walking upright shortly.

What I like is we are building and overall "ATHLETIC PROGRAM" and not just a one trick pony.

  10. The Track Team is to be commended for their visible and vocal support. Its great to see a program show up and support its fellow athletes. Wether Coach Vives (also in attendance) recommends or requires attendance it is a good idea. Positive for both teams I'm sure.

    Great Point McFan

I think very often alot of our athletes watch fellow athletes from other sports compete. What was impressive it seemed they all had their warmups on and sat together which clearly let us knoe they were there to support Men's Hoops.

I think whenever an athlete watches a game it would be great if they would wear atleast their warmup jacket so they could be recognized and not just blend in with the rest of the fans. Plus we'd have alot more school colors visible.

I'm sure Coach Vives organanized it and I think all coaches should do the same whenever possible. I do realize that these athletes do have alot on their plate and their down time is important but it is great for the "ATHLETIC PROGRAM", if you could clearly identify 12 basketball players or 30 Football players at a Volleyball Match or a Lacrosse game and vice versa.

Kudos to the Track Teams and Coach Vives

  11. Seventh Leading scorer in school history but the leading scorer in ppg at 21ppg. He played just 67 Games.

Would be a modern day 3 or wing player - excellent from the perimeter and could also take it to the hoop. Slim but wiry strong. Shot over 50% for his career from the field.

I'm not one to judge who is "The Best" but I would say he was definitely one of the best UA players of all time (regardless of Division).

  12. With Kiel Graham leaving I would imagine we still have 1 scholly to give.

    Knight (6'1") is a guard

    Anderson (6'5") is a wing

Yocum (6'8 or 9") is a power forward

    Gifford (6'10 or 11") ia a center

We are losing Lu, Levi, Zo and Jared - What are our biggest needs with Graham's scholarship??????

  13. Rockbridge is 10-1 and just won their division of the William Jewell Tourney in Missouri.

    Gifford was named All Tourney

So I would guess he's playing decent

    Bruins boys defend tournament title

The Rock Bridge boys basketball team successfully defended its championship at the Bank Midwest/William Jewell Holiday Basketball Classic, defeating Raymore-Peculiar 65-39 last night in the Cardinal Division championship game in Liberty. The Bruins improved to 10-1 with their eighth consecutive victory.

"We really played well," Bruins Coach Jim Scanlon said. "This was one of our better games we’ve played this year, especially in the second half."

After taking a 30-22 halftime lead, Rock Bridge outscored Ray-Pec (4-3) 35-17 in the second half. The Bruins exploded for 26 points in the fourth quarter.

"We really played a solid, smart game in the second half," Scanlon said. "We were really unselfish and everyone contributed."

Alex Austin led Rock Bridge with a game-high 23 points and was named to the all-tournament team along with center Brett Gifford. Chad Jones-Hicks added 10 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots. Logan Gray also scored 10 for the Bruins.

Rock Bridge next hosts Hogan Prep Academy Friday night.

  14. Reeder - I kinda agree with you.

But I now doubt we have the best talent.....

    preseason on paper yes but......

    Lucious has not been himself - 7.1ppg & 3.5rpg

    Levi has been struggling - 7.4ppg & 3.7rpg

    Iati hasn't shot well consistently

    K 31% fts

    Brent 34% fg & 33% from three

    Jamar 26% from 3

Are these problems the coaches fault or are the players struggling on their own.

We don't have a player playing up to their potential consistently. These are the same players with the same Head Coach as in past seasons.

If somehow these guys play up to their past abilities then I would agree.

Coaches can't make FTs and coaches can't make open shots only players can, until they do we are beatable every night.

Our strength was suppose to be our guards and our perimeter shooting

    Sacred Heart loss by 2 - 5 of 23 from 3

Siena OT loss 8 of 33 from 3

    Harvard pounding 3 of 14 from 3

    thats 16 of 70 - 21%

Not counting San Diego St, UCLA and Fla. we are 4-3 against mid to low DI schools lets hope we can start shooting the ball half way decent.

  15. From Reeder

Olddog71, I think the difference in ft% is primarily Zoellner. I haven't looked at the stats in detail, but last year, Jamar had a lot of ft's and while Zoellner didn't shoot that well from the line, he didn't have that many attempts. This year, with his increased aggression, he's getting a lot more attempts.

In the last two games the Danes have shot 47 of 72 for 65 % if you take away Kirsten's 5 of 17 you have 42 of 55 for 76%

Last season Kirsten made 40 of 73 for 55%

This season 1/3 of the way he has already attempted 35 (including 17 in the last two games) but has only made 11 for 31%.

He seems to be getting the ball in much better positions lately now he must make our opponents pay for the fouls.

Interesting stats over the last two games.....

against Bing we had 5 in double figures in a 70 point game and drew 29 fouls.

against "The Brook" in a 63 point game we had only two in double figures but 5 others between 7 & 9pts. and we drew 30 fouls.

It seems we are starting not too just settle for threes.

  16. In a listing of the best players at the prestigious national "City of Palms Classic"

Mike Yocum has played great comp and did a solid job as per HoopScoop...

    34.    Mike Yocum, 6'9, Sr, C, Merion Station (Episcopal Academy) PA - didn't put up prolific numbers, except in the second game.  But didn't back down when he faced two of the top four players in the tournament in 6'10 Brandan Wright from Brentwood (Academy) TN and 6'9 Jr Kevin Love from Lake Oswego (H.S.) OR on consecutive nights...stronger and tougher than he looks and, as a result, is a great complement to 6'4 Wayne Ellington and 6'5 Gerald Henderson on Merion Station (Episcopal Academy) PA and is a great catch for Albany.

4 points, 10 rebounds, 2-5 field goals versus Cape Coral (H.S.) FL

18 points, 7 rebounds, 6-6 field goals, 6-6 free throws, 2 assists, 1 block, 1 steal versus Winter Park (Lake Howell) FL

6 points, 4 rebounds, 3-6 field goals, 1 assist, 1 turnover, 1 block versus Lake Oswego (H.S.) OR

10 points, 4 rebounds, 5-9 field goals versus Brentwood (Academy) TN

  17. Lake Oswego (H.S.) OR jumped out to 6-0 lead and led by as many as 10 points in the first half of the first Semi-Finals game, but two great players (Wayne Ellington and Gerald Henderson) proved to be better than just one (Kevin Love) in this game.  By half-time Merion Station (Episcopal Academy) PA had cut the lead to five points and, by late in the 3rd Quarter, the momentum really shifted into Merion Station's favor when 6'9 Mike Yocum dunked one right in Love's face and attempted to draw a pair of charges from Love and 6'6 Michael McLaughlin. Lake Oswego also stopped getting the ball inside to Love, but Episcopal Academy still did not take its first lead in the game until a little less than five minutes remained.  And, at that point, Merion Station immediately went into a delay game, which caused it to become a free throw shooting contest.  The final score was 70-57 and 6'4 Wayne Ellington and 6'5 Gerald Henderson combined for 46 points.  Henderson impressed everybody with his incredible athleticism, but it was Ellington, who finished 10-17 field goals, 4-8 3-pointer, and 26 points and did most of the ball handling and made the clutch 3-point shot that really broke Lake Oswego's back at crunch time.  Love led Lake Oswego with 26 points and 10 rebounds and 6'0 Jr Ernie Spada was the guy who scored 11 of his team's first 18 points and helped set the tone for Lake Oswego early in the game with numerous fast break opportunities.  Lake Oswego also shot 21-42 from the field (50%) and 5-13 from beyond the arc (38.5%), but Episcopal Academy shot even better 26-50 (52%) from the field and they only had five turnovers for the game. - Hoopscoop

Yocum seems to being filling his role well at the "Slam Dunk at the Beach Tournament". Episcopal has made it into the Finals in a tourney loaded with talent.

  18. With this team I am not sure of anything but I feel if we shoot 40% we win.

If an average Jon Iati, Brent Wilson show up and if Jamar and Lu play up to their pre season ratings the Danes will win.

If Iati and Brent shoot in the 20% range and Jamar and Lu don't perform like first rate AE players we could be in trouble.

Giving up 61 to Harvard was not bad ( their 2nd lowest total of the season).

Scoring 49 was terrible - we had the shots we need to make the shots.

    Lets go DANES!!!!

  19. Confidence - shooters are usually Ultra Confident.

For some reason our shooters especially Iati and Brent are in an outrageous funk and definitely not shooting or looking to shoot with confidence.

I checked the stats for the last 3 games and the have combined to shoot 11 of 53 including something like 6 for 32 from three.

Add to that Siggers has come off the bench to shoot 2/12 including 1 of 5 from three

In other word are rifles are shooting blanks over the last three games - a dismal 7 for 37 from three.

The other major problem we have is costly, stupid turnovers. It hurts too shoot poorly but it's a killer to make stupid turnovers when your struggling shooting the ball.

Keeping posession of the ball and shooting it decently and we can still be a very good team.

Hopefully we start a new season Tuesday and forget the transgressions of the early part of the season.
