At least the ladies beat UMBC

Recommended Posts

Great win for the ladies last night 52-46 over UMBC. Struggling at times offensively there was much more good than bad. The assist numbers were good, 3 pt. shooting was better and they ran the fast break very well. UVM is next at the RACC and it should be another battle. Check out our sports website at http://wcdb.albany.edu just click on sports for a preview. Tip off on saturday is schedule for 2 pm. Thanks for listening.

Among the dedicated crowd of a reported 650 who came out to support the Lady Danes on a bitter cold night, sitting right there in row C section 200, were Interim President John Ryan, and incoming President Kermit Hall and his wife. From my vantage point this wasn't just a "photo op" visit. The Presidential party came early, stayed for the whole game, and took time to have a word with Jen Schumacher after she made her post-game visit with WCDB.

BTW, did you know President Ryan and his brother played basketball in their Naval Academy days ? President Ryan mentioned that while he'd seen the UA mens team play this year, including the big win over Siena, this was his first opportunity to attend a Lady Danes game --- he added that his travel schedule has also made it difficult for him to attend any games at Maritime (coincidentally Maritime's womens' BBall team also won last night, over New Rochelle).

FWIW President Hall made a favorable first impression on me by his intitiative to introduce himself to people outside of what I think of as the "inner circle".
