UAlbany president named to sports task force

State University of New York at Albany President Kermit Hall has been named to a task force on the future of college sports in the United States.

NCAA President Myles Brand said the input of college presidents and chancellors is "critical" to the task force's work.

"College athletics done well is a tremendous asset and service to our student-athletes, university community, alumni and sports in general," Hall said in a statement issued Thursday.

UAlbany has been seeking to develop a Division I-A program. It has had its most success so far in lacrosse. It's men's basketball team is also improving.

Hall will also serve on one of the four subcommittees on the task force. It will explore presidential leadership of internal and external constituencies. Presidents of Southern Methodist, Kent State, Penn State and other colleges will join Hall on that subcommittee.
