GERED BURNS, FREDDIE WILLS EARN A-EAST ATHLETE OF THE WEEK HONORS

Boston, Mass. - University at Albany's Gered Burns has been named the America East Conference Male Track Co-Performer of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday, Feb. 14. Freshman Freddie Wills earned America East Male Field Performer of the Week.

Burns, a senior, won the championship 800-meter run at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. on Feb. 11. The senior ran an IC4A-qualifying time of 1:49.86 to defeat three 2005 All-Americans. It was the second straight week Burns has won the 800m. He put together a school record-setting performance at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational on Feb. 4. Burns became the first UAlbany athlete to compete at the elite Tyson Invitational.

Wills, a freshman, won the long jump with a mark of 22-feet, 6.25-inches to help the UAlbany men to a dual-meet win over Binghamton on Feb. 11. The leap was four inches off his personal best in the event. He also placed second in the triple jump with a personal-best, IC4A-qualifying leap of 47-0.75, only nine inches off the top competitor.

Burns will defend his America East 800m indoor title when the UAlbany track and field teams compete at the America East Conference Championship, held at Boston University's Track and Tennis Center, on Feb. 17-18.
