Volleyball Update

Friends, Family, and Alumni of UAlbany Volleyball:

 

 

The 2006 volleyball season came to a conclusion this past week in the NCAA tournament. On Thursday we played and lost to a very solid St. Johns team in four games (30-21, 23-30, 30-22, 30-22). We played some of our best volleyball of the season against them as well as in the last couple of matches. But there's a reason they won 32 matches this season and that 23 of them were 3-0 sweeps. The match on Thursday was played in front of 1415 fans - that is big time! Thank you to all of you that came out and supported volleyball. The attendance was the 9th highest out of the 16 sites that hosted the first round. This sounds a loud message to the NCAA that volleyball is big in this area, and growing, and that we can put on this kind of event. This season was a huge success on a lot of fronts. First and foremost, UAlbany became the first volleyball team to win three consecutive America East championships. We also started the foundation for a booster club program - something that I hope can be very successful and fun for those involved! We are graduating four people that have been incredible players and ambassadors for the program in Blair Buchanan, Ashley DeNeal, Kristin Fiorillo, and Shelby Goldman. However, we are very excited for the future with the players that will be returning and a recruiting class that we are very excited about. We will be recognizing team and individual accomplishments at our annual banquet on Saturday, January 27th. Look for the time and place on the web-site in the next couple of weeks.
