JUNIOR BURNETT TIES SCHOOL RECORD IN 60-METER DASH AT YALE SEASON OPENER

New Haven, Conn. -- University at Albany's Junior Burnett won the 60-meter dash in a school-record time and was a member of the first-place 4x400-meter relay to highlight his team's performance at the Yale Season Opener on Saturday, December 9 at Coxe Cage.

Burnett tied a UAlbany standard, set by Alix Rodriques in 2001, when he sprinted 6.86 seconds to hit the tape first in the 60-meter event. He also ran the second leg on a relay that posted an IC4A-qualifying time of 3:16.75. Other relay members were Pat Weider (50.0), Joe Belokopitsky (49.7) and Joe Greene, who ran a 46.9 split on the anchor leg. UAlbany had three IC4A qualifiers in the 60-meter - Burnett (6.86), Pat Weider (6.94) and Dieuseul Joseph (6.95). Pat Weider finished second in the 200m in 22.14 to post an IC4A mark.

Greene, a sophomore, ran the third-fastest time in school history to win the 500-meter dash in 1:03.09 (IC4A qualifier). The Great Danes had three other first-place finishers, including John Moore in the 800-meter run (1:55.65), Freddie Wills in the high jump (6'4.25") and Luke Schoen in the pole vault (15-9). Schoen recorded the second-best height by a UAlbany vaulter and qualified for the IC4A Championship. James Nixon cleared the bar at 16-feet, 3-inches in 1993. Wills also placed second in the long jump with a mark, of 22-0.25. Ricardo Estremera was second in the 3,000 with a personal-best time of 8:31.78. Also Mike Lynch finished second in the weight throw with a personal best of 54' 1/2".

In the women's competition, Jessica and Jenna Ortman went one-two in the 800-meter run. Jessica qualified for ECACs by covering the distance in 2:11.22. She also was a member of the winning 4x400 relay that crossed the line in 3:55.47. Adanna Andrews, who also was a competitor on the relay, won the 500-meter dash in 1:17.44. Alyssa Lotmore took second in the 5,000 with an ECAC-qualifying mark of 17:12.95. Ritshell Verdier was second in the weight throw (47-7.75) and third in the shot put (40-7.75). Candice Mann finished second in the shot put (40'10") and freshman, Taisha Shaw, finished 3rd in the weight throw with a personal best of 12.99m. Senior, Sarah Charles, finished 2nd in the long jump 17'8".
