THREE UALBANY TRACK & FIELD ATHLETES EARN AMERICA EAST WEEKLY HONORS

Boston, Mass. - UAlbany sophomores Pat Weider and Jessica Ortman

were named the America East Conference Men's and Women's Track

Performers of the Week, respectively, by the conference office on

Tuesday, Jan. 9. In addition, junior Brenna Militello was named the

women's field performer of the week. All three participated at Army's

Carleton Crowell Open on Saturday, Jan. 6, in which the Great Danes'

women finished first out of 11 teams and the men came in second out of

14. It was the second meet of the season for both teams.

Weider won the 400-meter dash in a time of 49.80 seconds. He was

also a member of the first-place 4x400 relay team (3:23.60), along with

freshman Alan Nimblette, sophomore Andrew Overbaugh and senior Junior

Burnett. Weider previously qualified for this season's IC4A meet by

running the 200-meters in 22:14 at the Yale Season Opener on Dec. 9.

Ortman finished first in the 1000-meters in 2:53.93 and 1 mile in

4:58.54, qualifying for the ECAC meet in March. In addition, she ran a

leg of the 4x400 relay, which won the race in 3:54.50. Other team

members were sophomore Jenn Gurrant, senior Anisha Andrews and senior

Adanna Andrews. Ortman also qualified for the ECACs in the 800-meters at

the Yale Season Opener.

Militello won the high jump at the Army meet with a career-high

leap of 5 feet, 3.75 inches. She was also the highest UAlbany finisher

at the Yale Season Opener with a 5 feet, 1 inch jump.

Both teams return to action on Friday at the Gotham Invitational in

New York City, hosted by New York University.
