BURNETT SETS UALBANY 60-METER RECORD AT NEW YORK'S GOTHAM CUP

 

 

 

New York City - UAlbany senior Junior Burnett set the school indoor record in the 60-meter dash in a time of 6.81 seconds as the Great Danes' track teams participated at the Gotham Cup on Friday, January 12, hosted by New York University. No team scores were recorded at the event which was attended by over 40 Universities including University of Texas, Villanova, Iona and Rutgers.

 

Burnett, whose run also qualified him for the IC4A meet in March, broke the previous record of 6.86 seconds, set by Alix Rodriques in 2001 and Burnett at the Yale Season Opener in December. The 4x400 relay team, which included Burnett 47.6 and sophomores Pat Weider 48.6, Joe Belokopitsky 49.4

 

and Joe Greene 46.8, won its race in an IC4A-qualifying time of 3:12.82. Greene also finished second in the 400-meters in a time of 48.73, making him eligible for the IC4As. Freshman John Moore ran the 800-meters in 1:55.03 in his first meet ever at the NYC Armory. In field events, junior Felipe Reyes came in fourth in the long jump with a leap of 23 feet, four inches, also sending him to the IC4A meet. Junior Renauld Buck had a personal best with a shot put of 50 feet 2 inches.

 

On the women's side, sophomore Jessica Ortman won the 800-meters in a time of 2:09.83, seven hundredths of a second off her own school record. Senior teammate Adanna Andrews came in third in the race in 2:15.91. The 4x400 relay team, consisting of sophomore Jenn Gurrant 58.6, Adanna Andrews 57.7, Ortman 57.6, and senior Anisha Andrews 57.9, qualified for March's ECAC meet in a time of 3:52.21, good for third place. Anisha Andrews also ran an America East leading performance of 1:16.57 in the 500m. Senior Alyssa Lotmore finished seventh in the 3,000-meters in 9:53.01, also qualifying her for the ECACs. Sophomore Ritshell Verdier's sixth-place shot put throw of 43 feet, 2 ½ inches, highlighted the field events, while junior Brenna Militello tied for seventh in the high jump with a leap of five feet, three inches. Sarah Charles had a personal best in the 60 meters of 7.80 which is currently leading the America East Leaderboard.

 

The two teams return to action on Friday, Jan. 19 at the UAlbany Great Dane Classic at the New York City Armory.
