by The Garden Island

Two finalists have been named to possibly succeed retiring Kauai Community College Chancellor Peggy Cha.

Cha recently announced she will retire this fall after 10 years in the position.

The candidates are scheduled to be on-island Friday for interviews and campus tours.

Both currently occupy positions on the Mainland.

The candidates are:

• Helen Cox, associate vice president of instruction at Salt Lake Community College in Utah. Cox, who has been in higher education for 25 years, has a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Harvard University and a doctorate in English-American studies from the University of Utah. She has held her current position for five years.

• John Madden, dean of instruction at Pima Community College in Tucson, Ariz. Madden has been in higher education for 20 years and earned a bachelor’s degree in history and sociology and a master’s degree in education from Western Michigan University. He also holds a doctorate in educational philosophy from the University at Albany in New York. He has held his current position for the past eight years.
