Interesting Lillis had the lowest scoring average(13.4ppg) of the 5 mentioned but still made 2nd team, he must be very respected in Iowa!!!

Five area basketball players were selected to the Iowa Newspaper Association's boys' all-state teams.

Jimmy Binnie of Johnston High School leads the list after helping the Dragons reach the Class 4-A state tournament.

Binnie, a 6-foot-6-inch senior, averaged 23.9 points and 7.7 rebounds during the regular season. Binnie accepted a scholarship to play basketball next season at the University of Dayton, which competes in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

Dowling Catholic's Brian Lillis was named to the INA second team. Lillis, a 6-4 senior, averaged 13.4 points, 5.5 assists and 5.5 rebounds during the regular season.

Lincoln's Mitch Keller and Roosevelt's Chad Shannon were named to the INA's third team.

Keller, a 6-5 senior, averaged 17.4 points and 9.7 rebounds for the Railsplitters, as well as 2.6 blocked shots. Shannon averaged 16.2 points and 5.3 rebounds for the Roughriders. He also averaged four assists.

Grandview Park Baptist's John Carlson was named to the INA Class 1-A first team. Carlson is a 6-2 senior.

I've been away for a week so I'm just catching up on some posts. In our brief D1 history I don't recall us every having a first team all state player before. This year we have one first team, a second team (Lillis) and a third team (Dyson). I was curious where the other first team all-state players from Iowa were going and was pretty impressed:

Alex Thompson-Iowa

Jimmie Binnie-Dayton

Jason Bohannon-Just a sophmore, supposedly being recruited by Arizona.

Carlton Reed-Iowa

Brent Wilson-Albany

Pretty good company. We've been following Lillis in part because he has been easier to find media coverage about. Meanwhile Brent Wilson has been having a terrific year.
