Kate Fontana was named rookie of the week in women's lacrosse. Merrick Thompson was rookie of the week in men's lacrosse and Andee Lingren was named player of the week in softball.

 

 

ANDEE LINDGREN NAMED AMERICA EAST CONFERENCE SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Boston, Mass. – University at Albany’s Andee Lindgren has been selected as the America East Conference Player of the Week in softball as announced on Monday, April 12 by the conference office.

Lindgren, a senior from La Habra, Calif., leads UAlbany in both pitching and hitting with a 1.23 ERA and .414 batting average, respectively. She owns a 10-2 record in 15 appearances this season on the mound, plus has hurled 10 complete games and one shutout. Lindgren, who earned America East pitcher of the week honors on March 23, has allowed only 15 earned runs this year and has amassed 96 strikeouts. The reigning America East Pitcher of the Year leads her team in hits (36), doubles (9) and RBI (17), plus has two homers on the season.

Lindgren, a left-handed hurler, picked up three conference wins last week on the mound, allowing a total of only three earned runs on 18 hits with eight walks and 30 strikeouts in 20.0 innings of work. She matched a season-high with 12 strikeouts in her team’s league-opening 7-1 victory against UMBC on April 5. Lindgren went 13-for-20 at the plate with a .650 average for the week. She drove in 10 runs with two doubles and two home runs.

Albany (18-13, AE 4-1) hosts conference-foe Vermont on April 14 in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.

 

 

 

MERRICK THOMSON NAMED AMERICA EAST MEN’S LACROSSE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

 

Boston, Mass. – Freshman attacker Merrick Thomson has been selected the America East Conference Rookie of the Week in men’s lacrosse as announced by the conference office on Monday, April 12. Thomson earned the weekly award for the second time this season.

 

Thomson scored four goals, two in each half, in last Saturday’s 16-7 conference victory over Stony Brook. His low bounce shot, off a crossing pass, with 2:59 left in the second quarter gave his team an 8-5 halftime lead. He has scored four or more points in five consecutive games, and is averaging 5.2 points in that span.

 

Thomson, who ranks among the top-10 nationally in goals and points, leads the conference in scoring with 25 goals and seven assists for 32 points. Albany (5-3, AE 2-1) meets Ivy League-foe Yale at UAlbany’s University Field (football stadium) on Wednesday, April 14 under the lights at 7:00 p.m.

 

 

 

KATE FONTANA SHARES AMERICA EAST'S WEEKLY WOMEN’S LACROSSE ROOKIE AWARD

 

Boston, Mass. -- University at Albany’s Kate Fontana has been chosen America East Conference Rookie of the Week in women’s lacrosse as announced on Monday, April 12 by the conference office. She received the weekly honor for the second time this spring.

 

Fontana, a freshman midfielder from East Syracuse, N.Y., matched a season-high with six points on three goals and three assists in last Friday’s 20-14 victory over league-rival Binghamton. She added season-bests in draw controls (8) and caused turnovers (7), plus had six ground balls. Fontana, who has registered three or more points in seven consecutive games, also had two goals and one assist in a 10-7 loss to Holy Cross on April 7.

 

Fontana is seventh among the America East scoring leaders with 29 points (21 goals, 8 assists). She leads the conference in ground balls with a 4.5 average, and is also first in caused turnovers at 2.4 per game.
