Gym Rat AAU

Recommended Posts

I understand that the Gym Rat AAU tournament is this weekend , with games at both the RACC and Siena's ARC. Someone told me that UConn's Emeka Okafur played in this tournament as a 17 year old and that there are 80 or so 17 year old teams playing this weekend.

Does anyone know of any particular player or team playing at the RACC this weekend who Dane fans should be interested in watching, and if so, what the schedule for that team might be?

There is a history of some good talent at this event, however if UAlbany is looking at anyone coming it's going to be hard to find out since they don't list the players that are participating. Siena has the U:17 games for some reason, so all the rising seniors will be playing in Loudonville. Okafor was here, they have him on their page.

Using theInsiders.com's search function, some noteable alumni from the 2003 event, according to the GymRat page, include:

DaMarcus Bell, went JUCO after committing initially to Wisconsin-Green Bay

Adrian Joseph, committed to Virginia

Kelvin Davis, verbal commitment to Texas-El Paso (UTEP)

David Whitehurst, committed to Penn

Sam Dolan, committed to Mercer

Josh Duell, committed to Vermont

Brian Beckford, committed to UNC-Greensboro

Dashawn Dwight, committed to Quinnipiac

Devon Moffatt, listing some interest from Sacred Heart, FDU and Manhattan

Two names I recognized from the less in-depth 2002 recap included:

Tello Palacios, who committed to Louisville

Tyler Relph (NY Mr. Basketball, I believe), who is at West Virginia

Others I searched for were Loren Stokes, Hofstra; Konimba Diarra, South Florida; Oumar Sylla, Valparaiso; Frantz Dorsainvil, interest from Providence and Purdue but may have gone prep.
