I’m wondering which current players will show up at the press conference. Such a strange thing we haven’t seen. Always hope former players and alum will continue supporting the program no matter who is leading it.

Already to work!

Still better than Steve Masiello’s undergrad degree from Kentucky!

Welcome Coach Killings. Here’s to hopefully one or two championships before you go big time.

Never said he'd be an impact player here, though who knows, but the idea that he is leaving Marquette and might be following Killings here seems to speak to Killings as a coach. I can't imagine upending my college career to follow your assistant coach to a lower tier school unless you really believe in his coaching philosophy and character.
And re: yesterday's discussion about whether entering the transfer portal means that the players are gone:
It’s pretty much, “will my scholarship be renewed” and “does this Killings already have his guys he thinks he can bring with him”.

Welcome to Great Dane Nation .... Coach Killings .... I know everyone, past and present association with this program, wishes you well and much success.
My only recommendation (if you should visit this site and read my welcome: You (and your staff) should never visit the "bigpurplefans" forum again. Your life will be better for it because you know more about basketball then anyone who visits and posts to this site just as your predecessor.
It’s ok, I have a good feeling some of the regular posters over the years will now be gone in the MBB category if you know what I mean.

There also isn't a single player on the current roster where it's an OMG I can't believe they're gone, what are we going to do now feeling.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing if the team is stacked w/ JUCO's. What I am saying is expect almost no one from this year to be back. You want to take that as a positive, go for it.
When you say the roster will be filled by a "crap load of JUCOs" I'll tend to take that as a bad thing. No one takes high roster turnover is a positive, but it's not something we haven't seen within this program and other programs across the country. Coach Killings being unable to fill a roster is the least of my worries. Just look at the transfer portal. There's going to be grad transfers, 2-3 year transfers, JUCOS, and late signing period kids out of HS.

Not to nitpick, but they had 4 transfers at the end of the 2019 season lol.
What hurt most was not striking when the iron was hot at the end of the 2015 year. They had a stacked team in 2016 and won 24 games, yet their recruits coming in the following year were, you guessed it 6 JUCOS. The season after they tried to ride that Australian wave again, putting all their eggs in one basket and it completely backfired. The same can be said about the recruiting after the 2007 season.

This team is going to have a crap load of JUCO's next year I think because the roster at UA will be all but empty.
Soooo care tell me what this past years roster was filled with and what 4/5 of the starters were??? 😂
Some here make it seem like this team was going to have ZERO transfers if the previous regime remained. In fact their roster turned over 6-8 players for the past 5 years whether by graduation or transfer.
Ahh remember 3 years ago when they were so proud of having 5 freshman start. That really turned out great.
Maybe it's finally JoJo Anderson's time to shine!

For what it’s worth, the posters on the Marquette MBB board are very complimentary of Killings and not at all happy he’s leaving. So there’s that.
Exactly. I have not read one person say how the heck did this guy get a head coaching job except for Albany fans. Praises from Marquette and fans of UConn.

School alumns, little different. Man you really hated our last program.
Nope never said that. In fact you can look back as I said WB got unlucky this season with Covid and I would have extended him. My problem is with the clear ties with WB on this board. His contract ended and they decided to move on. Clearly it was so bad you should be happy that your close friend does not have to deal with such a toxic boss anymore.

They also finished with a losing record... obviously he wasn't the head coach. And his recruiting does seem very good. We'll have to see on the x and o's.
True. Definitely lots of work to be done.

Marquette had the 21st ranked recruiting class in 2020.

Vic's dad was the AD at UConn when he was at UConn, all in the family.
Yeah all in the family, sort of like hiring all your former players as assistants.

a first time coach who was an associate coach for a 13 win team. Fun times.
Yeah because these past three years have been realll fun times.
Clearly whoever he brought in wasn’t going to satisfy most of the posters on this board.

Is there the possibility of a D1 program with a core group of former UAlbany players with Will Brown as coach?
Is Will recruiting players for his next job? Can a departed coach do this under NCAA rules?
Just talking out loud.....ok 👌
He can if he wants to go sub .500 again...zing!
It’s a joke everyone.

Sometimes a new topic with a posting is to provide information, perhaps something to ponder. If something has to be that clear oh lord.... What wrong with throwing shxx at the wall after seeing the shxx here. Yes, I like to look what is going on in the bigger world....of college sports. Then I come to the BigPurpleFans forum and the focus is narrow.....pinhole narrow.... To end a happy note UAlbany SB sweeped a doubleheader at CCSU....try paralleling that
You’re free to post whatever you want and yes the Winter Sports Danes Hoops section of an Albany sports message board is going to be as pinhole narrow as can be lol.

I am confused about how you jumped to your conclusion, never compared Drexel and/or Mount St Mary to UAlbany, just saying in Drexel's case 25 years has past since their last appearance... again Mount St Mary was about smallest student population makes tournament... in Drexel's case... coaching changes did not bring a quick return to the Big Dance..
It was from the post below when you said “despite this coach change”, which I assumed you meant Albany.

I don’t think their situation has anything to do with the coaching change Albany is making.
Mt St Mary’s is going back to the tournament 3 years after they lost their coach to Siena. Every case is different.

How do AD contracts work? What are Bensons terms?
-
I'm sure there will be plenty of players available for whoever the new coach is to pull from. Especially with that extra year of immediate eligibility.
Welcome MBB Head Coach Dwayne Killings!
