Wondering why Albany only signed 3 during the early signing period of Dec 21-23. I checked a handful of other CAA teams and the number of signings ranged from a low of 11 (Villanova) to a high of 21 (Monmouth). The 4-5 other schools I checked were somewhere in between. Albany clearly an outlier. I see the flurry of new “Commits” coming through now but I’m just curious if anyone has an explanation of Greg’s “strategy” to wait for the “regular” signing period of Feb 1 to Apr 1.
They were going after a bunch of JUCO and D-2 D-1 Transfers, Partially depends on when they are graduating. Also depends on the number of scholarships availabel. 21 is higher than I usually see. May also depend on how many of the 1/2 scholarships we can give, NY S kids, based on family income can get free tuition. Some may be waiting to see if they can get a full scholarship from another school. PLUS a lot of kids are just now entering the transfer portal, every day there are more. Also likley has to do with the record of course.
Of course Stony Brook signed more and their record was worse than ours I think.

I agree they are probably looking for another game to be paid .
Is the procedure any different at the "1AA" level. Thought any football team that travels to Hawaii gets an extra game. Don't remember other teams with a TBD on their schedule this late. Aren't there usually some sort of contingency with any non league team travelling to Hawaii that if the game doesn't happen one of the other games has a contingency move to a later year or something similar.
In any event, my plan is to travel to Hawaii early to see the Stanford game and won't be at the Albany game no matter where it is played.
No idea. Good questions

Is it really "announced" of there's still a TBA on Sept. 2? We should get an extra game as a reward for traveling to Hawai'i
That's why we get the zero week game BUT can't say I disagree.

I think this kid is a big time sleeper. He will likely RS if he comes to us, which is perfect.
I agree, any freshman who signs will - we are all hoping Poffenbarger plays for 4 years. So any Frosh QB's would be available Poff's Jr. year as a backup (I think).

My favorite Albany QB has to be Mike Milano!!! Mike ran the wishbone to perfection. Won an ECAC Title with Mike under Center. In those days he/we threw the ball tops 8-9 times a game. LOL, with the wishbone offense the games were over in like 70 minutes. And yes, he is the father of the Buffalo Bill's starting LB Matt Milano.
John Bertuzzi is my favorite, ran the wishbone and the Offense averaged well over 400 yds per game and had he had 22 passes for the entire season [and 11 TD passes]. We gave up 2.4 yds per carry on the ground on Def and averaged 3 interceptions per game. Only Undefeated team in now 50 years.

Looks like they got a new Safety and a new DB!! Secondary should be better.
That's what I would think too. Bigger, taller but until they are here we won't really know.

A lot of players from lots of schools entered the transfer portal after December 5th, must have been a key date of some kind! I did not check into it. If someone does let us know!

I saw that. He was recruited by Coach Gatusso at Pittsburgh and came to U Albany several years ago. Hard working good young coach. He'll do well. I am interested as well. This is the time of the year when coaching changes are frequently made.

This looks like a great addition. He obviously got a bunch of playing time at Richmond. I think he is only a Jr. Day one starter
Keep watching - more coming. Early signing goes through tomorrow and then early JUCO signing goes through January 15. Regular signing period is February 1 - April 1. We have a couple of JUCO guys who have committed and at least 1 May grad as well. I may have the details a little wrong but who knows. I posted the rules earlier but................
