Definitely the best effort game of the season. Would have one another game or two if we could have played with that kind of energy from start to finish.

I had so much to do yesterday late that I did not get on.  I agree they played well AND with 7 guys not dressed including Pucci and Hoag.  The young guys looked great.  Check out my response to PrisonMike.    Had a great conversation with Scott this afternoon.  Messege me if you want more.

They played well for the first 20 minutes but after going up 8-3 with 8:27 left in the second they only scored 3 goals the rest of the game, and one was a pole goal. I don't understand the strategy of running a majority of the offense through 2nd, 3rd, and 4th string midfielders. Get the ball in the sticks of your best players, and create ways to get them good looks. Salit is the clear number one on offense, and you have great shooters in Hogg, Pucci and Richmond. Salit has shown every game that he can win a one on one matchup from x and teams aren't sliding to him, let him work more. Maybe try a big little to get him matched up on a short stick and if a quick slide comes get the ball to one of shooters on the outside. Wheres the two man game been? I think we saw the first two man goal the previous game against Merrimack. Let Hogg work off ball, Richmond has thrown some great passes he doesn't have to just be a finisher.

The defense often gets themselves in trouble when they get overly aggressive with their slides, the communication isn't always there. They have the talent to play with anyone.

There is a lot of talent on this team at every position, and they are very capable of winning the AE tournament. You don't want to still be figuring things out 13 games into the season but you never what could happen.

During the last 3 - 4 minutes of the first half there were 4 BS calls by the refs. - turn overs  They got the ball and scored each time - By the way THERE WERE 7 players who did not play... including Hoag and Pucci on Off and Runkle at Close LSD. Pucci may not be back for Saturday but Hoag likely will.  Who says they are 2, 3 4th string??  With all the injuries those young guys have played a lot in the last several games.  They brought enegry and played well.   In the second Penn had far fewer unforced turnovers and played better.  The game was tied most fo the 2nd half        and penn didn't score either - untilthe last 3 minutes. Again a couple of BAD calls gave them the ball - Engers got called for a hold when the Penn FOGO was ON TOP OF HIM.  They were given the ball three times on the end line when their player dove and ended up 7-10 yeards from the endline and our kid was running.  The rule is that the player closer to the endline when the ball goes out gets possession NOT the plyer who dives and lands on the ground and tries to make himself look like he really wanted the ball..

I talked to Scott at length today after their practice while waiting for the the last spring FB practice to start.  All of those issues were brought up.... He said they just have to play and NOT let their head get into the game.  Agree. I asked him outright about Jake and Gradon next year and he said they are both coming back.  He likes Salit at the X.  Loves how he is playing - Look for that next year is my guess.

Runkle's family was in front of me. The hit looked like he was just trying to push him out of bounds, his knee twisted but they said it didn't look serious. I think they said it could've been worse but his shoe blew apart, took the strain off the knee.

Two guys hit him one high and one low.  Looked like a cheap shot to me but I was watching from the second deck and may not have had the best view.

Thanks for the update. I think Graydon has not had the type of year he or anyone expected. I personally would welcome him back and hope he gets a scholarship. After last summer on the Canadian National team, everyone at UA expected great things from him this year. I bet/guess he’d like another chance to prove himself??

As for Piseno, IMHO has had an awesome year and career and IMHO UA should do all possible to get him back.

    Agree on all counts

  5. By the way, as he always does Marr played seniors quite a lot.  Maxwell, # 37 has not played hardly at all his entire time at U A,  Played most of the 3rd at LS close D.  Hurt us a couple of times [they scored twice on hm during the 5 goal run] but Kudos for coach for doing that.

The game the brawl not withstanding was very entertaining. Merrimack was very physical and based not only on the games end, was very scrappy, one may even say "dirty." But UA never backed down. I would say in some games UA did seem soft at times, but NOT at all yesterday. And except for the 5-0 Merrimack run that almost wiped out UA's 9-3 lead, UA [except for too many TO's {maybe weather related}], played well in all aspects. Shot well and D kept mack at bay all game. I will say that the 5-0 run did catch UA off guard as mack basically went into a nothing to lose gambling end of the game type of play. Once UA caught on they weathered the attack nicely.

Of note, Pucci did not play at all and Hogg sat the whole second half. Pretty sure Pucci only limited time vs yale, as well as Hogg. Like "State", I'm wondering if serious or just pre-cautionary??

UA did have two goals called back because of crease violations. On the replays, both most definitely ball released before the violation. The first incident the scorer was pushed into the crease and by new rule goal should have counted. And I thought the new dive rule also allows a goal if shot before the violation?? Anyhow, absolutely the first one should have counted. Anyone know the exact rules; would appreciate.

Also, wondering if anyone knows when/if the Northeast Conference Lax hiatus ends. Bryant I know is all-in AmEast, but Merrimack like several other NEast teams have become "temporary" affiliates elsewhere??

Plus Starting LSD close D,  Runkle got injured on a cheap shot and missed part of the second and the entire 2nd half.   I have never seen anything like what happened after the game.  Their coach came after Marr, Officials separated them and he kept coming so Marr responded and the yelled at each other for a while.  The Benson and other coaches came out to force them apart.  Their players had two outright on purpose fowls at the end of the game- the first one a 1 minute non-releaseable slash with 27 second left, the second one the last one for unecessary roughness with NO time left on the clock - that is when our team ran out on the field.   Wonder if their coach will be suspended by the league?

Never seen such conduct at one of our games.  I guess they are a new rival.  Gonna be tough on their field next year.................

By the way - totally agree on the two called off goals.  Both obviously wrong calls by the officials.

    Statistically even game. Difference IMHO either poor shot selection or great goal tending by yale {pretty sure the former.} UA had more shots than Yale but kept shooting HIGH and or wide. When on net most shot were right into the goalie stick. UA shot low six times and each went in???? {could be a couple of the high shots did get by, but seemed the goalie could not stop when we shot low or bouncers.}

The defense seemed a step slow all night; but let's give Yale's offense some credit: #s 6 & 44 each had 5 goals [& 2, 1 assists.] There two top and both Tewaarton candidates #s 41 & 45 were each held to 2g,1a. I rewatched the first QTR on stream before I got too depressed to watch more, but the UA announcers both said they thought Yale's attach was the best in the country.

Also, note this was a very meaningful game for yale; at #19 and currently 5th in the ivy, an at large ncaa bid might be there only ticket to the tournament.

I watched on the TV at my daughter and son-in-laws.  They have ESPN +. Turned it off agfter the 3rd.  No question POOR shots.  Not sure when they'll learn that they can not shoot diectly into the goalie's center mass.  The few bounce shots or corner shots hit the net...   Not the first game this has happened.  Very disappointing when it happens game after game..... And yes a step slow, same culprits most of the season, step around the corner and score.  They keep playing them.  Went back to a LOT of zone def again.  Every game we do that we lose.......................................

  8. A couple of new guys are on the spring roster

Chad Parker, 6' 3", 248 Lbs  a TE from Victor, NY who transferred from Dodge City CC - looks bigger

Of course Tairi Ketner, #89 TE 6' 6", 250 Lbs. from the Basketball team

Russel Dietz, Long Snapper 5' 10" 220 Lbs, from Islip, transferred from Springfield College

Ori Jean-Charles Linebacker 6' 1" 230, from Spring Valley, Transfer from Maine

Been to several practices. Team looks good.

Not animosity, but when you shine a light on a guy who hasn't played a second of lacrosse in several years IMO it erodes team morale, and he hasn't been a factor. I was pointing out this has been a recurring theme, and rather than developing players the staff continually seems to be searching for something

Not sure who you are mentioning but Carino was an U Albany FB player for two years - not from IMG Acad by the way.  He had to work as hard as anybody would be my guess but did not play much until the last couple of games.  The Kid from Denver [I think] has played sparingly but more the other day.

  10. Won't be a the Friday game, hopefully my son-in-law, who has never seen a lacrosse game in his life will let us watch it on the TV at their place.

Be back for the Sunday game. Can't afford two nights in Brooklyn OR anywhere in that area........    Anything decent is $250 - $500 plus taxes and fees.................. Don't feel like driving 1/2 hour or more back and forth from a hotel elsewhere.

    Totally agree.

I guess I have a slightly different take because I had a bit more of a front row seat. I didn't do a great job of articulating my point and thanks to HOF as I was not taking a shot at Carino, but more pointing that out as an example of pumping up a new player with no recent lax experience as the possible missing piece. I meant to add the constant changes in offense, two way middle, no two way middie, the constant defensive scheme changes........

For the last 4-5 years there just has been little to no identity. I completely agree that you always try to recruit guys who are better than the ones you have and if they are, work hard and develop then those are the guys who should be on the field. I am just aware of a few too many instances when the players know who can and who can't get it done and have lost confidence.

Agree. Carino has worked hard all year and not played a sigificant role.  He played two way Middie the other day (most of the time) and looked good to me.

Not what I meant.  New better kids absolutley should play.  The comment about "working their butts off" was what got me - so a kid works his butt off for two years and a better kids joins the program.  Who should play?  They ALL work their butts off while in the program, first year kid, transfer, new kid to the program whether he played fb for a couple of years or not.  If he is better he should play........  If the loyalty gets to a point where it is hurting the team by keeping a kid on the field then someone else has to play.  That's my entire point.  One close D L P playing down low most of the time, freshman, should not be playing, gets beat by a step around shot every game (usually more than one time), when he came in Saturday - in the 2nd half - it happened almost immediately AND Coach Marr was shaking his head.  He came in a lot though.

For what its worth, agree with coach:

I didn't think we played outstanding but we made things happen when we needed to, and that's a good sign for us.
But we definitely need to play a little bit cleaner, so we'll work on that this week."

The good, 9 different players scored a goal and 11 had points. The bad, only 5 assists on 13 goals and lost ground ball battle [by 1 but still?] and 18 TO's. I thought we should have scored more than 13 against njit, but "maybe" give credit to their goalie?  Watching the replay the announcers said [and I may have heard it somewhat wrong?], that the njit goalie has seen more shots than any goalie in the country over the last 4/5 years--over 500 shots seen [do not recall his save %age?] Anyhow he did have 16 saves against us, but don't really have a feel if it was poor shooting on UA or just a real experienced goalie who has had a lot of practice trying to make saves??

Played Freshman and sophomores most of the game with maybe one or two upperclassmen on the field. 4th 1/4 more upper classman on the field.

Thanks, I hadn't seen it and just read it. Unfortunately, no real meat to the story, but at least everyone on this forum has seen this and screaming at the top of our lungs for a while now. I've heard a few things second hand so can't say, but the one thing that has struck me for years is the disconnect between fall ball and the inability to start the season knowing who your 20-28 guys are with reasonable certainty. For the last 4-5 years there has been constant experimenting to try and find the elusive chemistry. Then you see guys disappear for a whole host of odd reasons.

I don't know the Carino kid, but if I were on the team, and I guy who has played no lacrosse, and really hasn't shown anything, gets a ton of hype leading into the season at the expense of kids who have been busing their butt in the program IMO is the sort of thing that gets under player's skin. I don't know that is a problem per se, but there have been things like that, and what I call the shiny new penny syndrome over the last few years which can't help team cohesion.

Carino had not played in a couple of years BUT he was pretty heavily recruited out of HS.   PLUS he had almost no time in a game until recently.  Not sure why the animosity torward him.  If a kid has an issue he should WORK HARDER and prove he should be playing.  Carino played as well yesterday as anybody - both ways, had a couple of mistakes.  There comes a time when coaches have to decide what is best for the TEAM not individuals.  If new recruits are better, they should play - bottom line.  Or if upper classman are just not doing it they should sit - bottom line.  My opinion.  The way to get better recruits is to win.
