AMANDA MORIN TOSSES SECOND ONE-HITTER OF THE SEASON

El Paso, Texas -- UAlbany pitcher Amanda Morin tossed her second one-hitter of the season as the Great Danes shut out host UTEP, 3-0, on Saturday, Feb. 26 at Helen of Troy Field in the second game on the second day of the UTEP Tournament. In the opening game, New Mexico State downed UAlbany, 9-1, in six innings.

Morin allowed a single to Simone Holland in the bottom of the first inning. The only other batter she allowed on base was Kristin Hardy, who walked to lead off the second. The right-hander struck out nine in the complete game and improves her record to 2-0. For the Miners (5-11), Megan Barber took the loss and drops to 3-5 on the season in going the distance.

The Great Danes (2-2) scored one run in the third as Leslie Busch scored on an error by the catcher. UAlbany tacked on two runs in the fifth inning when Maegan Larsen hit a double to left field, plating Ali Meacham and Busch. Meacham and Katrina Dunning each had two hits in the game.

New Mexico State took command of the opener with a five-run top of the second. Stacy Knight had a two-run single and Ashley Roskos hit a two-run home run to spark the inning. UAlbany scored its only run in the bottom of the frame when Julie Gannon drove in Dunning, who led off with a triple, on an RBI single. The Aggies (9-11) scored four runs in the sixth to extend the lead to 9-1. Knight went 2-for-3 with three RBI for New Mexico State.

Stephanie Carrasco pitched four innings to record the victory for the Aggies. She struck out two batters and is now 3-3. Looks like Morin might be the real deal and have the same impact Lindgren had two years ago when she was a JUCO transfer.

Since she is from Glens Falls, does anyone know if UAlbany was on her list when she committed to Florida Atlantic two years ago???

Always great to keep the locals home. If she keeps this up, I am sure the softball team will develop more of a following this season.
