Freeport overcomes sluggish start, rallies to defeat Knoch behind Bauman

 

12/05/03 - JEFFERSON TWP — Knoch’s Jordan Shoop was hot.

 

Freeport’s David Bauman was downright frigid.

 

But that all changed with the baskets each team attacked after halftime. Bauman found his range; Shoop lost his.

 

Bauman scored 14 of his 19 points in the third quarter — hitting four straight 3-pointers — as the Yellowjackets overcame a 10-point halftime deficit to pull out a 65-56 win over the Knights in a raucus, playoff-like atmosphere at Knoch High School Thursday night.

 

“You have hand it to Bauman and (Luke) Westerman,” said Knoch coach Les Shoop. “We were in (Bauman’s) face. He wasn’t shooting from (19 feet, 9 inches). He was shooting them from 25.”

Knowing they have Zoellner, Dyson, Hughes(????) and B. Wilson for a number of years Brown and the staff has brought in some rifles Iati, Lillis - who was reported to be one of the better 3 point shooters in Iowa and Bauman who someone on the staff said is a better pure shooter than Lillis. With theses type of shooters, teams will pay if they sag on the big guys.

 

Also Levi, Martin and Brent Wilson can shoot the three ball.

they may be only press clippings for now ... but it sounds like a talented balance on the horizon for UA basketball ... still hoping for the best in 03-04 ... but the forecast suggests that there may be a new sheriff in the AE and Capital District come 04-05
