UAlbany lost to UMass yesterday by one goal: 1-0.

Although the match ended in a loss, it might signal a change in the team's fortunes. Over the years women's soccer has suffered poor records year after year.

From the UAlbany Athletic site: "UMass (4-1-0) won the third meeting in this series, but it was much closer than the previous two contests. UAlbany (1-5-1) was defeated by six-plus goals in both 1999 and 2000, when the program was in its Division I infancy."

In yesterday's match, the freshman (freshwoman?) goalie, Maria Liguori, made 10 saves. She may be a "keeper" (yes, pun intended).

A team which I labeled earlier this season as UAlbany's arguably "weakest team" may have turned its fate around.

Congratulations, women, on your moral victory. I look forward with pleasure to some W's later this season.

Mary Francis will turn this around...the woman is a fighter...from working with her in the past.
