WOMEN FINISH FIRST, MEN COME IN SECOND AT CARLETON CROWELL INDOOR TRACK OPEN

 

West Point, N.Y. - Senior Anisha Andrews won the 800-meters in the women's race, while sophomore Joe Greene came in first in the 800-meters on the men's side, as the UAlbany women's indoor track and field team finished first and the men's team finished second at the Carleton Crowell Open, hosted by Army on Saturday, Jan. 6.

Andrews, who registered a time of 2:20.60, was one of five first-place finishers for the women on the afternoon. Sophomore Jessica Ortman won both the Mile (4:58.54) and the 1000-meters in a time of 2:53.93, as the top three spots in the race were all held by Great Danes' runners. Ortman's performances are both ECAC qualifying marks. The 4x400-meter relay team, consisting of sophomore Jenn Gurrant, senior Adanna Andrews, Anisha Andrews and Ortman, also came in first, clocking in at 3:54.50. UAlbany women also won two field events. Junior Brenna Militello was the top high jumper with a leap of 5' 3 3/4", while junior Corinna Hengen won the pole vault with a mark of 10' 6".

The men's side saw victories in six events, including Greene, who registered a time of 2:00.20 in the 800-meter run for the victory. Pat Weider's time of 49.80 seconds was good for a win in the 400-meter dash. Both of the Great Danes' relay teams also came in first. The 4x400 relay squad, consisting of Weider, freshman Alan Nimblette, sophomore Andrew Overbaugh, and senior Junior Burnett, finished in 3:23.60. Meanwhile, the 4x800 team of sophomore Jared Jupin, Greene, sophomore Joe Belokoptisky, and freshman John Moore won the 4x800 in a time of 8:00.50. In field events, sophomore Freddie Wills came in first in the high jump with a mark of 6' 8", while junior David Parker's first-place pole vault was 14' 7 1/2". The Great Danes' team score of 156.90 was second only to Army, with 200.70 points.

The UAlbany indoor track team will return to action on Friday, Jan. 12 at the Gotham Invitational in New York City.
