Purple and Gold wins 400m Hurdles at T & F Championships

Recommended Posts

Isa Phillips of the purple and gold/yellow LSU Tigers (got the colors right, just the wrong school!) wins the 400M Hurdles today at the Track and Field Championships. He practically made up the stagger by the end of the first turn. He was really impressive. UAlbany's Joe Greene ran very well, finishing fourth with a time of 49.92, despite having to run in lane 8!

1 Isa Phillips SR LSU 48.51 10

2 Brandon Johnson SR UCLA 49.02 8

Indeed! It was so surreal to Albany represented in the finals with the likes of Texas, T.T., UCLA, Auburn, LSU, etc.! It got me thinking this evening about how our athletic growth has been not limited to just one sport like basketball, but really across all of our athletics. By making it to the national scene in a variety of sports (e.g., basketball, LAX, track and field, baseball), it really helps our national exposure. It's really amazing to see how the entire athletic program has grown to where it has in just under a decade!

And like Patch said, kudos to J. Greene; heck of a performance, especially having to race out of lane 8! Interestingly, Greene and the kid from Georgia were the only underclassmen in the race. Perhaps this is Greene's race to win in the next year or two! Darn proud of the effort today!

It also appears as though Greene ran under 50 seconds for the first time ever. I bet he feels great about his performance!
