NEC and an automatic birth into FCS playoffs

Did anything come of all the talk about giving the NEC an automatic birth?

 

Also, any talk about an increase in schollys for the NEC?

NCAA will vote on the expansion of the FCS playoffs this month. 25th or 28th. If the expansion comes, then the NEC will need to apply for the AQ to the Championship Committee. There are three other eligible conferences (SWAC, Ivy, and PFL) none of which have expressed any interest in it if it happens.

 

Rumor is there will be a vote to increase schollys at the NEC meeting this summer. I hope its true.

Sports Network column re the possibility of playoffs for the NEC by 2010 with at least a specified minimum criteria for an at-large before then.

That is interesting. I think if the criteria had been in place this year, Dayton or us probably would have gotten a bid instead of EIU.

Dayton only played one game vs. autobid conference teams last year, and I'm not sure either of us were in the top 20 - maybe Dayton, not us.

Seems it's "likely" the NEC gets an auto bid in 2010..........
