Track Team in Jamaica

Recommended Posts

What an unbelievable experience!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Our team travelled to Jamaica on Thursday, April 16th to compete in the 2nd Annual UTECH Track & Field Classic today and have been having a great international experience. The trip was long beginning at 3:00am with a bus ride to JFK Aiport in NYC. We had a pleasant non-stop flight on Air Jamaica to Kingston where we were greeted by a delegation from the University of Technology including members of the press. We had a few local television interviews which was shown several times on their local stations. In addition, I was picked up and driven to a local radio station where I was the guest on a live radio sports show and interviewed for about 15 minutes. It was great to share about UAlbany and our athletic program. There is alot of excitement about the upcoming track meet. There are over 150 athletes from USA, Columbia, Korea, England, Cuba and Senegal as well as the top Jamaican athletes including several Olympic Champions from Beijing.

The University of Technology have been unbelievable host. They have provided ground transportation for us, waived our entry fee and yesterday sent our athletes on a little tour of the Island. We went to Ocho Rios where the students had a great afternoon of shopping, food sampling, beach, jetskiing and many of them climbed the famous Dunns River Falls. What a beautiful site!!!!!!! They have also provided plenty of sports drinks to all of our students and last night invited us to their campus where we received a tour and were at a Reception for the 150 visiting athletes. The reception was outdoors at their swimming pool and was complete with plenty of food, music and great company. Our students had an unbelievable time and met Olympic Gold Medalist, Asafa Powell (4 x 100m relay) and Shelly Ann Fraser (100 meters). In addition they observed Usain Bolt during a practice session. They took numerous photos with the Champions and felt really welcomed through the many remarks given. They had an incredible couple of days and now are resting and preparing for a huge and exciting once in a lifetime International Track & Field experience tonight. The meet starts at 5pm (6pm EST) in the National Stadium and is expected to be sold out (35,000 people). It is also going to be televised live tonight on local Jamaica TV and is going to be streamed on Universal Sport. Have a great day!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree. That is most likely a focus area for the team. The could also have a strong DMR if they chose that direction, but I would think J. Greene and A. Beauvais willl be focusing on the 400H leaving the team short on the 400 leg of the DMR.

This team keeps getting better and better.
