The Series With Albany

• Albany leads the all-time series, 5-4 with five of the last six games being one-goal affairs.

• UMass had won the first three meetings from 2001 through 2003 before Albany responded with four consecutive victories from 2004-08.

• In 2008, the Minutemen finally broke through with a slim 9-8 win after four consecutive one-goal losses. UMass jumped out to a 3-0 lead early in the game, then had to withstand Albany scoring the game's final three goals to post their second win of the young season. Tim Balise tallied a hat trick with three goals and added an assist for four points.

• In 2007, the Minutemen rallied from a 7-0 deficit against the second ranked Great Danes on Mar. 13, 2007. UMass tied the score at 9-9 in the fourth quarter, but Albany's Merrick Thomson scored just 12 seconds into overtime to hand the Minutemen a heartbreaking loss, 10-9.

Last Season At Albany

March 10, 2009 - Albany 12, UMass 9

For the first time in six years the UMass-Albany game wasn't a one-goal affair, but it was just as tense as the Great Danes held on for a 12-9 victory over the No. 13 Minutemen on Tuesday afternoon at John Fallon Field. In a game that was tied six different times, UMass outshot Albany by a wide margin, 48-31, but was unable to come up with the win. UMass senior Jim Connolly had his ninth-career hat trick with three goals and Ryan Marcus added two goals. The Minutemen fall to 3-2 overall, while Albany moves to 3-1. The Great Danes have now won five of the last six meetings.

Albany's Joe Resetaris and Brian Caufield scored all five Great Dane goals in the decisive second half. Resetaris notched five goals while Caufield racked up seven points on three goals and four assists Great Dane freshman goalie John Carroll came up big in the fourth quarter with four of his nine saves in the period.

Albany sewed up the win as Resetaris scored two goals in the final 2:13 of the game for the largest margin of the game for the Great Danes.

UMass had its last one-goal deficit when Marcus scored his second goal of the game off a feed from Bobby Hayes with 3:11 to bring the Minutemen back to within one at 10-9. Albany had taken its first two-goal lead of the game at 10-8 as Caufield netted his third goal of the game on a man-up opportunity off a pass from Corey Small with 7:05 left in regulation.

Exactly. They will not beat any decent team with these types off Face-Off and Ground Ball stats. Two parts of the game that not only require skill, but heart and desire. The fact that this team not only loses these battles every game, but gets dominted is extremely concerning. Why does it seem like this has been an on-going problem for this team for years and yet nothing changes?
