Gary Holway

Recommended Posts

Gary Holway played in the 50's, a little before my time (actually alot before my time). He's the Danes all-time leading scorer and rebounding average although Jamar Wilson may give him a run for scoring leader by the time he's done.

He's now over 70 but still playing hoop. His team, the New York Owls, recently won the 70+ age group at the NY Senior games. From there they move on to the National Senior games to be held in Pittsburgh next summer. The games are held every two years and last year Holway's team was the national champs.

I hope at 70 I'll still be able to go to basketball games, forget travelling around the country and playing in them. I realize there probably isn't anyone on the board who ever saw him play but it's great to hear a former Dane (or was he a Pedagogue?) still out there playing.

At least one Board member saw and played with Dr. Holway. He was 6'2" and played forward. A real student of the game and his long range jumper would have resulted in a lot of three's. Great moves inside and could bring up the ball against the press and very unselfish--if you were open , you got the ball. Closest player to him was All-American Rich Margison but that was many years ago too. Both were great people as well as players.
