TV-13 news said that Charlie Voelker, Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs , announced today he will challenge State Senator Neil Breslin in the Democratic primary. I don't know if he has to take leave now, or wait until after the primary, or the election.

I know Rob's leaving permanently. His last day was today/is tomorrow. Starting his own marketing/PR firm, starting with Charlie's campaign.

 

Not sure on Charlie's status.

I was told this weekend that Charlie is not required to resign in order to run for office. Of course, if he wins he won't have time to do both jobs.

For those of you concered about the number (or lack thereof) of NYS legislators directly connected to/alum of the SUNY system, and UAlbany specifically, I encourage you to do what you can to support Charlie's efforts in this campaign.

 

While Sen. Breslin is part of a political powerhouse family in Albany County with his brothers serving as the County Executive and as a County Court Judge, he is an alum of Fordham College and the University of Toledo.

 

In addition to his current athletics role with UAlbany, Charlie is a Class of '87 alum of the University and has been involved in Capital Region business/sports since he graduated.
