Winners, in games and life - Jennifer Gish, on women's team and Coach Abe
Men punch ticket - Wilkin
Danes women back to dance - Singelais
Bottle toss tarnishes celebration - Wilkin's post-game notes, Jamie Brown hit by Powerade bottle
Smallest player a big shot - Iorizzo
With regard to the article on the Coach's wife getting hit by a bottle, Coach handled that situation with grace and stated the right thing insofar as the incident with the bottle throwing reflected the behavior of 1 out of 3,000.
Unfortunately, such behavior is not the product of 1 out of 3,000 UVM fans. In 2007, a Vermont fan came on the court right after the buzzer sounded as we were rushing (and already on) the court, and that Vermont fan "drop kicked" and assaulted our mascot. It was violent, aggressive, and in no way playful. It happened right in front of me. If that happened at UAlbany, the student would have been arrested by the police. So perhaps it's just 2 bad apples?
In my view, Vermont fans outwardly exhibit the most passion (which may be different than possessing the most passion) of any school's fans in our Conference (honorable mention: UMBC's diehard fans). So, one will see the best of fans at a UVM game, and it logically follows that that one will see the worst of fans also at a UVM game; to wit, where there is high passion and emotion, the best and worst human behavior can usually be found.
To be fair, I generally have not heard much explicit trash talk from UVM fans. However, I do believe that one UVM fan purposefully screamed in my ear as loud as she could yesterday (to the point that it was physically painful), and I perceived it to be intentional and directed towards me (My passion got the best of me, and I wrongly responded in kind a few minutes thereafter).
I am not trying to be overly critical of Vermont fans (I love their passion and relatively unwavering support). The purpose of this post is to opine that they are no better than the rest of us.
This goes to both sides.
I was watching on TV and I believe both sides were chanting BS and A-Hole at the refs at points of the game. This is classless, IMO. UAlbany fans (if I saw/heard right on TV) should be ashamed of themselves.

Interview with Brown when they got off the bus. This reporter did a poor job though, "American East"? "Last tourney visit 1996? Do your research.
She also called it the UAlbany conference is another video talking about the women's team.
They need to have sports reporters do sports and regular reporters do regular news...

Brown on Iati:
"UAlbany coach Will Brown said to him, "The one thing I'm pissed about is that your parents didn't have one more."
"I wish we had another one coming," Brown said."
LOL

Would love to have that seat...lol

Watching the highlights...that pass from Black to Johnson after the steal for the dunk was suhweet.
-
We've won there before, hopefully we can pull off another upset.
-
YES!
I just got home from Pennsylvania to watch the last 40 seconds. So worth that speeding ticket I got on the way home ahahahah (true story).
Can someone tell me why the game is in Vermont though? Why isn't the whole tournament in Albany?

Regarding media, I tend to be at a local area dunkin donuts 2-3 times a week around 10pm and YNN is ALWAYS showing something about UA Hoops. I've caught segments like 7-8 times already.

No offense to you guys who played ball...but PEOPLE are different today. Meaning, back in the time when you guys played...guys were smaller (not shorter - smaller). Guys are JACKED now. And they keep getting bigger in order to beat off the next guy who's just as big or bigger. Based on the videos and images I've seen of the game in the 70's and 80's (not sure when you guys played - but I'm guessing you weren't the 90's or 2000's)...guys were tiny back then compared to today.
This is why I hate it when NBA fans talk like Russell or Wilt are the greatest centers ever. Those guys would be like Dwight Howard in today's NBA. The game was not as physical back then. Shaq/Ewing/Hakeem, etc. would have ate them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Sorry for the NBA tangent, just using it to show my point. Same thing in NFL. Guys are bigger, faster, stronger. It's the evolution of the game. No better example than Lebron. If Lebron did Back to the Future and played in the 70's, the size he is today, he'd average 50/20/10. He's already unstoppable, he would be God on the court in that era.
I admit I'm a much bigger NBA fan than college/UA fan.

We've been trying to give our TV away for like 3 seasons

What a disaster. We officially suck against the top teams in the conference and we will not be dancin this year.
WHY IS BROWN STILL PLAYING IATI. He has been figured out 100% and is USELESS now.
Glad he finally played Johnson some decent minutes, kid looked good and will only get better. He needs to replace Iati with Page.
Iati and Black have both been scouted and figured out. They are no longer factors in the last 4-5 games.
I too will not be attending the rest of the regular season games. I'll be there for the tourney, but I'm done with the regular season.
Thank God I'm a Miami Heat fan and can actually enjoy their games.
-
Forgot Vermont is this weekend. Won't be able to attend that game...hopefully UA takes care of business though.

Second semester classes start Wednesday. Let's hope at least a few students don't feel they have to start studying immedately.
You know who won't be studying? THIS GUY. lol.

Rowley has been a revelation since he'd moved to the starting lineup. Every team needs a guy l like that, and for a while we didn't have that toughness. Love this kid.
And Hooley? What else needs to be said. This kid looks like he is NEVER flustered. He's as even keel as they come and always has his head in the game. Can't wait till the next home game.
Also, we beat them by 10 even when Black was 1-13. He won't be that bad most games, so it's nice to see he had backup.
-
1) Did not hit rim - should have been our ball with a LOT of time on the clock and the game tied.
2) Did anyone else think that Rugby tackle of one of our players (Hooley?) a minute or two earlier that wasn't called was also BS? Should have been 2 FT's.
Refs took this game from us, yes, but we allowed them to by not rebounding all night.

Regardless of what's goin on, speaking as a student, the problem lies in that there isn't sports related posters/flyers plastered all over the school. Meaning, there is no school spirit.
If they would put up visual representation of our athletic programs ALL OVER THE PLACE, we'd see a bigger turn out. Basic marketing...the more you see something, typically speaking, the more you want it.
-
Gotta admit I'm very surprised. I was convinced that after losing Aronhalt and Suero, we'd be hurting offensively. Hooley has been a revelation. So poised, smart, and athletic. Evans has been nice too...never seems flustered. And of course Iati, coming outa no where to become UAlbany's version of Ray Allen...if Mark Jackson was in the building, he'd be sayin, "Hand down, man down" quite a bit.

Leave it to Wilkin to let everyone know if the arena isn't packed...
@tjwilkinEight minutes before UAlbany and St. Francis Brooklyn tip at SEFCU Arena. Plenty of good seats still available pic.twitter.com/4ZF1xvEC
I will admit it is bad. I just feel like Wilkin is just snide about it.
I'm going to start heckling this guy at random moments of games.
