  1. Son, we live in a quad that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by campus cops with tazers. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Clickclack? I have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep for Gontarek, and you curse the UPD. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That Gontarek's arrest, while tragic, probably destroyed UA's football season. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, destroys football seasons. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at frat parties, you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending kids from Long Island. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a tazer, and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to!

  2. UA posted some pics on Facebook of Homecoming Weekend and I have to say, our stadium is so damn beautiful. Really...just stellar. A field house at the south end zone is all it really needs...and build out the east side when attendance warrants it and we'll have one of the finest athletic complexes on the east coast.

  3. And to think of all the time I spent growing up taking flat caps and wrapping a rubber band around a baseball to get the proper curve in the brim.

so true. breaking-in a hat and getting the right curve is an art form. kids these days :o

  4. Anyone think we would have still gotten the $10m had we been playing in the NEC on University Field? Honest question.

Maybe not, but I'd say that our success on the field had more to do with it...especially over the past year. We were one of only 3 universities in the nation to rack up as many championships and tournament appearances...not to mention the tens (perhaps hundreds) of millions in media exposure earned thanks to Peter Hooley. This program is just ridiculously good, and very much deserving of this fortune. I cant wait to see what Benson does with the new SEFCU deal.

  5. The University at Albany on Thursday announced that it has received a $10 million gift to support the football stadium and other facilities, expand scholarships for student-athletes, and address additional athletic priorities.

The gift was made by The Bernard and Millie Children’s Foundation, which was created by the son of Bernard and Miller Duker, William Duker of the class of 1975, his wife Sharon and their son William. The stadium will be renamed Tom & Mary Casey Stadium, in honor of Sharon Duker’s parents, according to a news release. The field football field will now be known as Bob Ford Field at Casey Stadium.

“This gift reflects the wonderful values Tom and Mary Casey instilled in their children about the importance of education and service to community,” said University at Albany President Robert J. Jones in a news release. “We are deeply grateful to the Bernard and Millie Children’s Foundation for this investment, which will have a positive impact on our athletics programs, our student-athletes, and the UAlbany experience for many years to come.”

UAlbany Foundation President George R. Hearst III said, "Tom & Mary Casey Stadium is a treasure for the University and the entire Capital Region. This remarkable and generous gift will open doors for student-athletes hoping to attend UAlbany, and will ensure that this University and community can be proud of this stadium for years to come. But this gift is much more -- it is validation of the excellence of a UAlbany education."

"Our parents passed down enduring family values,” said the Casey siblings in a news release. “We wanted this gift to represent those values and strong sense of community as well as their appreciation for academics and athletics, which they impressed upon all of us. We are pleased to support UAlbany’s tradition of academic and athletic excellence and proud to see our parents’ names attached to a great facility that is a valuable University and community resource.”

  6.

    $10 MILLION!

BREAKING: Pres. Jones announces @UAlbanySports has received $10M gift from the Bernard and Millie Foundation (Sharon, Bill, & West Duker).

sorry bout the amount......the line of thinking was going to be the same amount as was donated to Alb. Med of 25M..with that said...10M is a HUGE donation....

$10 million is huge and honestly I didn't think it would be much more than that anyway. This is HUUUGE!

  7. $10 MILLION!

BREAKING: Pres. Jones announces @UAlbanySports has received $10M gift from the Bernard and Millie Foundation (Sharon, Bill, & West Duker).

BREAKING: Pres. Jones announces #UAlbany will name football stadium in honor of Sharon Duker’s parents “Tom and Mary Casey Stadium.”

Background Info: The Casey Family includes 4 #UAlbany alums and a current student who is a member of #UAlbany19

  8. I think the second letter of the second word is an 'M'. If you zoom-in..the outline looks like an M, and the M in STADIUM fits in that space almost exactly. The being said, I dont know what word could possibly be SM??Y that would make sense in this context

PS- I think the first word is actually the logo of whatever company has the naming rights. The first character looks like a fist holding something.

    LOL

  9. Lost in all of this is the fact that he's just a KID! Kids make mistakes...they need to learn from them and move on. Yes, he should face the consequences for his actions but THE PENALTY DOES NOT FIT THE CRIME. This should not be a felony charge!!!! He didn't drive drunk. He didn't assault anyone or cause harm to anyone. He didn't destroy property. Hell, he wasn't even selling drugs. He was smoking a joint and panicked when the cops showed up, so he threw it out of the window. It's such a minor offense that many states are legalizing its use, and even the NYPD publicly stated that they wont even bother enforcing the law anymore for personal possession http://nypost.com/2014/11/10/nyc-may-stop-making-arrests-for-small-amounts-of-marijuana/

    Here's an excerpt:

Under the new policy, people busted for possessing 25 grams or less of pot — a violation under New York law — will no longer be cuffed, hauled off to a police station, fingerprinted and booked.

Yes, according to NYS this is considered a felony charge...the result of archaic Rockefeller Drug Laws that have destroyed millions of lives...but the campus cops could have and should have exercised discretion...like, I don't know, THE LARGEST AND MOST RESPECTED POLICE FORCE IN THE NATION IS DOING!

So what is the net result of all this? Indefinite suspension. Likely loss of scholarship. Legal fees incurred by his family to keep him out of prison. High probability of this staying on his record and affecting career opportunities in the future. All for smoking a joint? Do you people honestly believe that this is a reasonable punishment?
