  1. So they built a big lead running the floor and when they slowed it to half court things fell apart. No change in tempo by Brown

His faith in Puk baffles me. He cant shoot and can't muscle inside. And when he tries he looks like Stanley from The Office dribbling.

If you're gonna keep pounding it inside then switch out Johnson for Ennema and have a kickout shooter. Then again once it goes inside to Puk it never comes out and rarely goes in. It will be interesting with Rowley Jr next year in the middle since he can hit from three. At least that will spread the middle. But since Johnson can't hit they clog the middle

Just terrible talent management by Brown. He has a physical team with speed. Yet he's playing the half court set with only two shooters. Counterintuitive.

  2. I realize this has been an aggravating year for some of us but do you guys every look up how many programs have 3 NCAA tournament appearances in their first 14 years of Division I? I encourage you to do so because you aren't going to find many, if any. See our fellow SUNYs if you want proof.

Past history doesn't make this frustrating current year but it doesn't mean those years didn't happen either.

You can attach the word "miracle" to last year's win at Washington and again in front of last year's tournament run to play Duke in the NCAA tournament if you want to. That would be two miracles in one season. It came after losing Aronhalt and Suero in what most people said would be a "disaster." That disaster ended with us watching our team play Duke at the Wells Fargo Center in Philly. I'll take that disaster and "only" going to the NCAA tournament every five years.

If you want to call me "too loyal" that's fine. What I'm loyal to is a program that has outperformed it's peers (Buffalo, BS and Bing.) It's just not showing it this year.

I think it's more the fact that they haven't built anything off those tourney runs. Vermonts had 5 trips? And how many losing seasons have they had since their first tourney trip?

How many UVMs (good almost every year) are out there and how many Bings (suck most years) are there? Probably a lot more Bings than UVMs. Am I happy with all the losing seasons? NO. Am I really happy after watching some garbage seasons to see them go to 3 NCAA tourneys? HELL YEAH I AM! Are we UVM? NOPE but there aren't many. Are we Bing? HELL NO!

Brown has admitted that he screwed up post-jamar with recruiting. I hope they have learned from that experience and the next class will show that. There has also been a little bad luck with injuries to Aronholt, who I think could've been ever better if he never got hurt, and Luke, who looks to be a force his rookie season.

What the hell happened to our free throw shooting?!? Is Odunsi really still injured or do WB and staff just not like him? Haven't heard anything from him in a while.

If he's learned from his recruiting mistakes why do they have no starting pg or center next year with a single game under their belt?

  3. I think a contract helps Coach Brown recruit four-year student-athletes..like we see from the 2014 class that has signed so far.

Personally..I wouldn't be against the idea of signed a JUCO big for 2014. Running on the assumption that they would be more playable right away than a freshman big. A real need next year.

That new contract is an albatross around this programs neck. I get the JUCO strategy when Suero and Aromholt left. Not any more. How often does Vermont go that route?

Why he doesn't do more recruiting in the tri state Urban areas has always mystified me.

  4. The season is almost over and we still have not defended the three----giving up more than three 3's per game =s p--- poor defense!!! Too many guys looking for the other to get the rebound---not a good effort.

The excuse for their bad perimeter defense can't be that teams just happen to get hot against them. They aren't defending it well at all and teams are exploiting that. Opposing coaches are intelligently game planning and exploiting that weakness.

We out-rebounded Hartford by 6. Even managed to equal them in defensive rebounds..despite missing 8 more shots than them.

Believe it or not..coming into tonight the team was actually very average in three-point defense (181 out of 351). I think it's just that their opponents often are at the extremes..very hot or very cold.

  5. I want so badly to love this team. To be excited by them. But instead I'm disgusted by the stagnancy and poor coaching development. Fire Will Brown. There. I said it again. And I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks this. Alas his extension will not be eaten by the school any time soon.

  6. They are down 11 with only two real outside shooters on the court. I just watched Gary Johnson loiter all alone at the 3 point line with no one guarding him. Why isn't Ennema in? That would at least spread the floor and open something up

Did I mention Will Brown is a mediocre coach yet this game?
