  1. Even though losing Sam will put a large hole on the floor ... I really do think that this team will be better next year.

Another year of time in the gym for Peters could make him a force in the league if he can get his legs in shape. He is getting stronger all the time, but with injuries like he had and other issues take time to build.

Sam Rowley says that Mike will be better than he was. He is taller, and the potential to be stronger - he just doesn't yet have the touch that Sam has on the glass. If that comes, watch out.

Greg Stire can be a beast with work. I can see it in the way he plays.

From what I have read and seen - Kyle McKinley could be a big addition. I know WB doesn't typically get a lot of Freshman into the rotation, but this might be an exception.

I am actually more worried about the guards:

We know what we will get with Hooley (as long as he comes back after graduation), Singletary, and Sanders. Dallas should continue to improve.

The thing I fear is losing Wheeler Baker because of his limited PT this year. He could probably be the best player we have next year, but is he happy with his limited role so far? How much more time is he going to get next year? Tre Green has shown flashes of talent, but I have to think he sees the writing on the wall of no PT next year. Where does Cremo fit in? Maybe he Redshirts? I don't know much about Wells and Twyman - but do they see any shot at seeing the floor?

It is a good problem to have (too much talent) but as I said at the beginning of this year - keeping the talent happy with PT is going to be WB's hardest job this year.

Next Year, all the strong teams will be better as well - so it should be exciting. VT and Stony Brook aren't losing much either. Hartford will rebuild again, but watch out for Bing next season. The AE should be on the rise...

  2. Just noticed that the #72 highest scoring D1 team in the country is the Houston Baptist Huskies

Leading that time in scoring (12.5ppg) and assists (2.8) is none other than Anthony Odunsi who played all of 5 minutes last year for the Danes.

I watched him play a little, and thought he would be huge for us. If he stayed, I am not sure where he would have played though, so I wish him the best.

  3.

At 200,000 square feet it's more than twice the size of SEFCU arena (93k)

wonder why it will hold 1k less.

Probably because they are doing it right. Lots of locker room space to hold conference tournaments. Lots of concessions and other space. Probably weight rooms etc that UA has in the old gym.

Stuff like that. Good for them. Building a high end, nice space, that has enough seats for an electric atmosphere without being so big that it feels like Siena at the TUC.

  4.

With as physical as SB played, I still don't know how they only had 3 team fouls at the end of the second half while they were in the bonus. I know we have had some foul shooting issues lately but part of the strategy always seemed to be to make more free throws than the other team takes. It didn't happenlast night.

I forgot another one where the ball went out of bounds neamid court across from the scorers table (near where I was sitting) and they gave the ball to SB. It was clearly last touch by SB from my angle. The refs talked about it after and I believe I heard them admit to each other that they blew the call, but they did nothing.

I mentioned a blown travel call that should have gone against UA that led to a Dallas 3 pointer early in the game. Maybe the rest was payback because the blew that one.

I know the play you are talking about. It was Sanders but the replay showed he passed the ball prior to his foot dropping on the 3rd step. There should've been a blocking foul call on SBU on that play for blocking Sanders but I'm glad they didn't call it since we hit the three from the corner.

Thank you for that. That's the downside of sitting courtside. When the play is on the other end, it's hard to see stuff like that. The other plays I mention were right in front of me.

Hahah @ scoreboard will feel like home.

How much do scoreboards cost? Can SEFCU even fit a new video scoreboard? The ceilings are kind of low. I know Stony Brook's new place does not have anything hang from the ceiling. They're video/scoreboards are all at the corners of the arena.

I was thinking about this last night myself. A video scoreboard would have to extend horizontally instead of vertically. Scores and numbers on the right and left of the video screen instead of below.

With yesterday's attendance..the team is now averaging 3096 per game. The all-time attendance record for the team is 3031 during the 2006-07 season. We'd have to average 2706 over the next two games to break that record..ignoring any post-season games. With a nationally broadcast ESPNU "purple-out" game this Friday and a weekend game next week against UVM that will likely decide the regular season title and number one seed in the conference tournament..I'd certainly hope we could hit those numbers.

That's why I always say...just win and people will come. Forget arena, advertisement etc. NOTHING has as big an impact as winning, the uptick may be gradual but it will be there.

I blame my 8 year old son for last nights loss. Every game he has watched on TV, in person, or listened to on the radio has been a UA win. Unfortunately the family left me in the cold while they went to Florida (i don't have enough time off with a fairly new job) and he didn't get to watch or listen.

That said, even at 8 years old he had his mom continually texting me for updates and I had the final 15 seconds with my phone on speaker phone so he could hear the ending. He wanted to know what was happening (and his mom couldn't figure out ESPN 3 and I didn't think to have her install IHeartRadio to listen.

This is how you get asses in the seats. Get the kids to experience the winning. They will grow up to be lifelong fans. It will take a few years, but if he is this into it in 3rd grade, wait until he is older.

3883 seems low to me. I have been at games that 3,000 was the official number and the place felt empty compared to that.

    A few comments:

Reffing seemed bad where I was. They missed a travel call on UA early that led to an Ennema 3

There was a foul on SB near the end that also had a goaltending that wasn't called. Should have been 2 points plus one instead of 2 shots. 1 point at the end in a game like that could have made a huge difference. If Albany gets that call it's a completely different game .

Not sure what it looked like on TV, but from where I sat it appeared there was a shooting foul 'albeit a half court shot' that the refs didn't say he was shooting.

Speaking of that not even getting a 1 and 1, I am not sure how Stony Brook managed to only have 3 fouls in the half with a couple minutes to go.

No mention of the suspected second goaltending late in the second half? From my angle that ball certainly appeared to be on the downward trajectory.

apparently looking at replay (according to UA fans) it was not a goaltend. You and I sat near each other up top so our viewing angle may have contributed to what looked like a goaltend.

Haggyland, my original post mentioned the so called goal tending. From where I sat, it seemed pretty clear. It looked to me like it was swatted off the backboard before it had a chance.

Click, you may have been speaking Haggyland and not me, but I had about as good a look at it as a fan possibly could.

This isn't that particular play as I put my phone away and stopped taking pics and videos but here is the view from where I sat...

  9. We ran into Puriefoy in the midst of a major slump. He has gotten much better since then. Being the pessimist I am, and considering the conference winning streak that I doubt can last for the season, I fear that tonight will not be pretty.

That said, this will be a great game for my first time ever sitting in a courtside seat!

Prediction: Stony Brook 78, Albany 71

What I want to happen: Albany 81, Stony Brook 40 - would be nice to more than double their score...

  10. I'll go back to what I said much earlier. The biggest things to get me, and more people like me (30-50 year old local, familiy, dual income, kids), to additional games is not ticket prices, is not more winning, it's all about the arena. Although a bigger overhaul would be better, the actual things that would improve it for me are fairly minor...

    1. Chair backs throughout the sideline seats. It might remove a little capacity, but that would be fine if all the seats were full

    2. Video scoreboard

    3. Renovation to the Western Ave side entrance to the facility. Make an actual entrance there, with some big logos, a ticket office, and a welcoming entrance. Additional concessions in the new 'Atrium' would be nice as well.

I think building an addition on to that side of the building taking up some of the grass and sidewalk there wouldn't have to be huge to accomplish the above goals, could probably be done for around a million bucks if not less, and would make it more appealing - especially being next to the football stadium.

Every time I bring the wife and kids to a game they complain that they would rather see Siena play. Not because they are Siena fans, but because the arena is more inviting and more pleasant, and the TUC sucks so that is actually saying a lot.

  11. I was looking at Verbal commits today and it has Albany at -1 for scholarships available for next year. I seem to remember someone saying that Cremo is paying his own way in 2015. Is this confirmed or is it because of something I fear... The team is planning for a Peter Hooley graduation and him not playing his last year of eligibility?

  12.

Here are the standings in all of D1 NCAA M's and W's ball:

    M:

    Albany, 8-0

    Gonzaga, 9-0

    W:

    Albany, 7-0

    Gonzaga, 9-0

So, then Albany actually is...wait for it...keep waiting...the Gonzaga of the east. ;)

Funny enough... Today's update of ESPN's Bracketology had Albany as a 16 seed, playing against...

    Wait for it...

    Gonzaga

  13. Just curious... Will we see more of Tre Green in the Hartford game? I watched him play in the Maine game. He made a few mistakes, but it was his first significant minutes. Beyond that I was impressed with what he brought to the team. I thought for sure we would see more of him in the Stony Brook game without Hooley, but I do not remember him seeing the floor - even when the last minute subs entered the game. He seems to have a lot of talent. I would hate to see him leave the program because he is upset about no PT. I guess as long as we keep winning it doesn't matter - but he seems like a good kid and one we would want to keep around.

  14. My thoughts are with Peter and his family. The greedy part of me wants to ignore Will Brown's comment saying that he doesn't know if he will be back. The family part of me (the part with a wife going through breast cancer treatment) hopes he does what's best for his mind and his family. Peter, if you ever happen to read this: all of Albany is with you. Good luck to you and your family.

On a different, less serious and more amusing note: I watched most of the game on ESPN3, but missed the last 5 minutes of the first half and various other times with family stuff. Any mention of the mascot fight from last season? Any rematches? Gotta balance the serious with humor.

  15. Well I just bought courtside for the Stony Brook Game. Used the directory on uasports page to contact the sports department ticket manager. Apparently they don't sell them on-line because they are so limited. $28 each and going to be mailed to me.

442-DANE is the box office direct. I couldn't find that number anywhere - so now I have it.

  16. I've never sat up there, and I posted in the LCC thread about how badly I wanted to win seats in the courtside leather couches back in the mid 90's but never could win the spot. Would love to try and get courtside for a game like SB if I could, but would even settle for another game.
