  1. Still on the fence about renewing my tickets. I'm not a football fan, but I have 4 of the greatest seats in the stadium. I only make it to a few games a year and treated them as a donation. It just feels bad when I can't even give my tickets away because no one wants them. Continuing to lose makes it even harder.

  2. This year Topps put out a set called Bowman U with college players in it...

    https://www.cardboardconnection.com/2021-22-bowman-university-basketball-cards

It got me thinking.... are there any UA players that have had a basketball card? Being a sports card geek for many many years if like to add them to my collection. Along the same lines, Bowman put out a football set as well this year.

I have a collection of local baseball players with Kahnle, Anderson, Hoffman, Whitley. And I've picked up some cards from the last few seasons of Prizm draft basketball that had some AE guys on the checklist - Warney and Lamb.

I'd love to see some UA guys. If the school allows it, it might be another way to get our guys some NIL money.

Seeing this, my only thought is: How much will the landscape change between now and then?

From potential conference affiliation changes to the entire NCAA turning upside down to who knows how long DK will call Albany home there are so many items that can change.

That said, I absolutely love creating a stronger connection to the local schools beyond Albany Academy. There is some great basketball talent in the area and getting involved in Troy, Schenectady, Saratoga, and other areas can really help the program and the local scene in general. Local kids have clear development paths, connections with all the schools to hopefully put more butts in the seats. I like it.

  4. Offered 3 local kids in the last few days  including, which as far as I can see, is this first offer for 2026

Wooten and Mayben are from Troy and Odutayo is Albany (CBA).

    From Verbal Commits:

5/19/2022 - 2026 PG Imahri Wooten (6-4, -, 2★) has received an offer from Albany.
5/18/2022 - 2024 SF Oreoluwapo Odutayo (6-6, 170, 2★) has received an offer from Albany.
5/18/2022 - 2025 PG Si Mayben (5-10, 155, 2★) has received an offer from Albany.

Randall committed to a D3 school. Amherst maybe? I forget which. I was looking to see what was out there for size and checked him out.

According to the TU last week, Jackson is in fact a PWO even though he signed so that puts the team at 13 ships and a preferred walk-on. Class complete. Only additions will be walk-ons or it means someone else is leaving without the portal.

  6. Not a lot available about him, but looks like he played well when he was in and was very strong at the end of the season. Could be a good get? This team needed to score more and from what Twitter shows he could get them in bunches. Was all academic team in the Ivy. There are definitely a bunch of strong academic kids on the roster and that's great to see.

I don't know what that tweet was about, but there are a couple of mentions of him during the Ivy Tournament of people becoming fans. I didn't watch that game. Probably should.

    Anyway...

Didn't think there were any scholarships left? Either there are some exceptions with the COVID extensions or someone else may have left the team? Maybe someone graduated and isn't returning or someone left without entering the portal?

  7. I haven't been following LAX, as I am definitely a fair weather fan of the sport at best, but what happened here? A decade at the top of the league, top 10 or top 25 rankings, with legitimate shots at a national championship then dropping to middle of the AE, and not making the tournament a few years in a row?

Did the league get better? Did other big conference schools jumping into the Lax world hurt?

I'm curious if these last 2 down years are the new normal or if it's just a bump in the road?

I could swear I counted 13, but I guess I'm wrong. 1 ship left for either Horton or another recruit.

    Senior: (1) Davis

    Junior: (3) Hutcheson, Drumgoole, Shafer

Soph: (6) Amica, Eadman, Little, Reddish, Neely, Ketner

    Fresh: (2) Jackson, Beagle

Figured out who I was missing....

Didnt we just sign Jaoannah Kellogg as well. That would put the team at 13 unless Jackson is in fact still a PWO. That's why I thought that this means 13 and nothing left for Horton.... unless there is still COVID things in place that allow the team more than 13.

If Horton comes back,  no scholarships.  If Horton does not...scholarship.  I am not sure if there is an absolute "you are gone" between DK and Horton...if there is not, he can still come back.

I like how Horton grew...but based on the way we are recruiting, I would be surprised if he is back.  At this point a 6'8-6'10 big is what we need based on the team's current construction.

I could swear I counted 13, but I guess I'm wrong. 1 ship left for either Horton or another recruit.

  10. So he won't be a preferred walk-on or does the "preferred" means he signs a letter?

If he is getting a scholly, I believe that means we have one left or the roster is full of Horton decides to stay. I'm torn... I still want Horton to stay, but I also feel this team really needs a BIG big up front. Every team in the country is looking for a 6'10"+ type big body, so I won't hold my breath, but if we could land a real rim protector it would give the team a real chance to compete with UVM and Bryant. I fear both teams still have too much for us at the moment, but I know UVM fans are all begging for a big for their roster as well.

  11. I assume this signing means Horton is definitely going elsewhere. If he can score and handle the press, I'm all for it. Having multiple guys that can handle the ball is great with Amica's injury history.

This team needs a shooter with Horton and Cerutti gone or it's going to be another long season. At the moment we are stacked at the point with Davis (Sr.), Little (So), Amica (So), and now Edmead (So), but we are still thin up front. Hopefully we can get a serviceable big at 6'10" or bigger. I know that's a pipe dream at this level, but I don't see us competing with UVM and Bryant next season without one.

Assuming Ketner gets a scholarship and Horton is in fact gone, then there are 2 scholarships left. Would love to see a real big for the 4/5 and a pure shooter for the 2/3.

Anyone know the status on Drumgoole and Schafer? Either of them could fill the shooter/scorer role if healthy and they play to what their original expectations were...

  12. Had no idea that a garage would cost that. My guess would have been well less than half that number.

That said, that while area on the other side of University Drive around SEFCU could have a regular lot built there, and if any of the residential areas on the other side of the trees would be bothered by potential noise a sound wall could be built.

Either way, parking at Dutch Quad then walking to SEFCU in the winter blows chunks. Literally. I can't tell you how many games I didn't attend because of weather and that walk. Especially with young kids or older people. The shuttle does run regularly, but the shelter sucks and it takes forever. The cost of parking has never been an issue for me, but the comfort of that walk does.

Go to a Syracuse game and people park miles away and the weather can be worse, so my concern is minor compared to going to the carrier dome, but they are bringing in North Carolina, Florida State, and Duke. People will walk through crap weather for that. I don't see it happening for Maine, New Hampshire, and Bing.

  13. I brought events up earlier in this thread. My very first weekend on campus was Dave Matthews at the RAAC, and that year saw half a dozen big name shows on campus. That was when the Student Association was big and did a lot of big events, until Landslide Larry got impeached after dancing on top of a Ryder truck at a football tailgate and investigations found misappropriation of SA funds. Don't think there have been many big names on campus since...

Now a parking garage would help a lot as well.

A few years back the parking situation was my number one item to help get more people to games in one of the famous "butts in the seats" threads. I know a lot of people complain about the cost of parking, but in my mind costing has nothing to do with it. It's the walk from Dutch Lot in the winter. I know they added the shuttle, but frankly that doesn't help much.

My suggestion was to add parking on the other side of University Drive around SEFCU. A narrow multi-story garage there like the one at NYS OMH on New Scotland Ave could add spots for 300-600 cars depending on length/height of the building, then add a walkway overpass directly into the renovated SEFCU Arena with an exit before the arena to go down to the SEFCU lot for entrance to Casey Stadium. That leaves the SEFCU lot for VIPs and GDAC members and tailgating, Dutch Lot could be maintained for tailgating during football, but no one would have to deal with the walk from Dutch to SEFCU in the winter.

I know before I had SEFCU lot passes and season tickets for basketball and football the weather and the walk from Dutch was a major factor in if I decided to go to a game or not. The $10 for parking had a 0% impact. With a car of 4 or 5 people that was just a $2-3 addition to the cost of each ticket.

I think expanded access to adult beverages in the Arena and stadium was my #2 item. Being able to bring a beer to your seat instead of sitting in the HoF room or now needing to be a top donor for the floor area would help a lot.

No.  Doles served a purpose but I hope we can do much better in the portal. Doles was very soft. I mean that will no disrespect. Everything he did was going away from the basket. He was a below average shooter. I wish him the best.

Except when he was hot, he was FIRE when shooting. I always liked watching him play, just always cringed when I saw him fading away.
