  1. I couldn't make this game at home as I was coaching another losing team tonight. Can anyone that was there tell me what type of energy the team had at halftime? Looks like we built a 10 pt lead then something happened to just stop the flow. I posted this in an earlier thread or two, but reading the body language of the UA players when they come out of the locker room at half time seems to be a pretty good predictor of how the game is going to end. We need a Fruscio type guy to fire them up.

Defense has been the savior of this team so far this season, but they allowed Maine to shoot 60% from three? Was this poor defense on our part or were they just going full Pancake Thomas on us?

Thankfully Maine can't make foul shots or the score would have been way worse.

  2. So as we were driving home from the game my wife reminded me of the comment I made to her and my son at the end of halftime....

The team came out of the locker room, walked on to the court to warm up, and proceeded to look like they didn't care. Were tossing up silly shots, sauntering around with zero energy. Basically looked like they didn't want to be there. I told them that it was a bad sign, and the lack of focus and energy could follow the team in the second half. I was trying to tell my son that he shouldn't do that on his team and he always needed to focus and keep his energy level high.

I forgot about making the comments until my wife reminded my son of the comment and hoped he learned a lesson. For once, I felt smart. At least for a few minutes. Ok that's gone now.

Definitely NOT recommending a split.  Just pointing out that brook may not have the "foresight and brains" someone suggested. They definitely have political clout (i.e stadium named after long time L.I. legislator) and have always been funded disproportionately IMHO to UA (see previous parenthesses.)

    Like Joe Bruno Stadium?

  4. I used to be vocal about wanting UA to leave the AE and take any step up it can. Need to crawl before you can walk, with the goal to be in a multi bid basketball league and FBS football within 15 years.

After multiple discussions on this board, my tune has changed slightly. I would still love to see that for the school, the students, the capital district fans, etc. But now I'm more reserved, and don't see it happening in that time frame. Especially with the current leadership at the school and in the state. Instead of moving up just to move up, I feel the school needs to be intelligent in making a move because it's the right move, and I don't see the CAA as the right step for SBU or UA, but I've been wrong in the past.

This current wave of moves is going to upend all of D1 sports as we know it. While the AE will survive this round of changes this year, I'm afraid of what the P5 schools and the football world is going to do with the current D1 setup. Will the NCAA move to 4 or even 5 divisions? The only thing UA should be concerned with right now is making sure it is positioned in a conference and with it's results to stay at the D1 level and growing/improving every year. For the reason, the CAA might be the right step for SBU now, and UA should be exploring all options. I'd hate to have all the progress we've made in the last 20 years be for nothing when the new NCAA setup drops us back to D2 type status while Buffalo and SBU move on at the DQ level. Hopefully we have smart enough people in athletic leadership to see what's happening and have them able to make the right move. With Gattuso being extended, I'm not sure that we do.

  5. Interesting, and I kind of like it with JMU leaving the CAA.

AE is then dead. UMBC, UML, Bing, and NJIT would need to find new conference affiliations.

Basketball conference schedule would move to 19 games (12 with a home and home vs your division plus 7 each year with the other division on a rotating home schedule)

In football the only CAA name I'd miss on the schedule is Villanova, but we add Georgetown so we would still have a nice name on a banner.

The SBU rivalry would be gone completely instead of just out of basketball, but im relatively sure that there would be an OOC game every year to keep that up. In fact it would be great for my post in another thread about a 4 team rotating basketball tournament for the 4 SUNY D1's as all 4 schools would now be in different conferences.

I like it Mainejeff. Now go make it happen.

Hartford is leaving which leaves 8. I know everyone likes to crap on the MAAC and we don’t really fit the other schools profiles, but with Monmouth potentially leaving would I’d love to see Albany head there.

I know, this is why I mentioned the drop to 8 with SBU potentially leaving. So far, outside of Hartford leaving and NJIT joining, the AE has been fairly static for a long time. SBU leaving at the same time as Hartford means the AE is probably about to have a large upheaval. We can pontificate all we want but there is going to be a major rework coming soon.

  7. SBU to the CAA is not yet confirmed, but it looks like it will happen (makes no sense to me, but it is what it is).

I like the AE with 9 teams and a 16 game basketball schedule - gave more OOC game possibilities. 8 teams isn't enough. The league will need to add another, and my bet would be CCSU.

If SBU does in fact move to the CAA and UA stays in the AE - I'd love to see an annual SUNY Basketball Challenge. 4 Team event with UA, Bing, SBU, and Buffalo. Rotate Host Cities. Double Header on Friday night for the first round, then double header on a Sunday with a championship and and a consolation game. Make sure that UA and Bing do not square off against each other in round 1 to minimize the chances of playing a league foe in a non-league game. Give out the SUNY Cup each year!

  8. Any updates on Drumgoole? Highly recruited and came from an ACC squad. Thought he would be a significant contributor this year. Last I heard he was going to be back around the start of conference play.

No Cerruti or hutch really hurts as they are the two best outside shooters on the team and very good defensively. I feel like team would be 2-0 in conference with these two in the lineup

  9. Anyone have any inside info on if this game will happen or not? I'm so excited for the start of the conference season.

Not sure if starting against UVM at UVM is a good way to start conference play, or a terrible scheduling draw.

Id assume that Killings will run the team a little differently during Conference play, and potentially surprising UVM without much history of what to expect from the team could be an advantage, but I'd also like to think that the team will continue to improve throughout the year and we may have a better chance later in the year as the team gels. Getting confidence and practice against the easier teams early might have been nice after an ultra hard OOC.

  10. I've stayed out of the football forum since the middle of this disaster of a season. I hate to give up my spot in the stadium because I absolutely love my seats, but you can count me as one of the people who will not renew his tickets, and will no longer advocate his company for any sponsorship dollars, at least on the football side. I'd rather sponsor LCC at this moment.
