I keep seeing concession revenue in conversations on attendance. Until a new contract is in place, please stop using this in your calculations of revenue. The athletic department could care less how much is sold during games. They have a contract with the current vendor, awarded from an RFP, where the vendor rents space at a certain rate. No matter what they sell or don't sell, UA collects the same.
This could change in the next contract, so the more butts in the seats today will mean more competition and better bids during the next contract, but for today it makes no difference.

Anyone listen to this ESPN podcast (Courtside with Seth Greenberg and Dan Dakich) that had killings as a guest?
Kind of funny to listen to him dodge the questions about the "great facilities" at UAlbany...

Cam transferred, Lulka graduated and I believe is going into teaching ... does anyone have any update on Brent Hank? I noticed that he doesn't seem to be mentioned in any of the UA instagram posts. It wouldn't surprise me if he left, but I always loved watching him play. Such a huge human. He is still listed on a bunch of the roster lists I have found, including Verbal Commits and other spots.

Anyone have any updates on where Brown will be landing? Assistant somewhere? I've heard rumors of him becoming the head coach at D3 Colby-Sawyer College (NH). Seems like a pretty big drop.

Looks like the athlon sports preseason football rankings are out. Looks like they have UA at #26 (Technically the first school named as "On the Cusp")

Enjoyed the zoom meeting last night. Not sure who else was on, as they did not show participants.
I was a little league game during it, so I was only half paying attention. Interesting comment I did catch though. Coach K saying that the team would go as far as Jamel Horton took them as he grew as a leader, not necessarily as a player, but as a leader.
Seems to have all the confidence in the team growing and improving and competing, especially if he is staying his returning starting PG might not be important as a player. I know that's not what he was saying in reality, and I dont remember the exact quote, but that was how it felt when I heard it. Seemed like a good sign.

With another scholarship being given yesterday, that means one of the following:
1. Hank is leaving
2. Someone else is leaving
3. Someone is walking on
4. The team is using whatever waivers are available and are allowed to go over the limit of 13 because people are staying that could have graduated.
I don't know if UAs budget will allow for additional ships, but if I understand the rules correctly, for every person that should have exhausted their eligibility last year, but decided to stay because of the COVID rule change adds an additional scholarship for this upcoming season. If I understand that correctly, with Champion staying, we could actually have 14 scholarships this year.
Edit: Doles had a year left anyway, removed him from the above.

With that done, that means we have a complete scholarship roster set now. The only real question mark being Brent Hank. I've always liked him and thought he deserved more time than he got. With Cam and Brent both leaving though I could see Brent leaving as well. If that's the case we would still have another Scholly to give.

By now I'm sure most of you have heard this, but Hartford has now announced that the rumors were true, and the board has voted... Hartford is going back to Division 3. They will remain D1 until existing scholarships end.

There are now multiple reports of it growing significantly bigger with additional members of the basketball team, and members of the UVM Hockey team and other athletes. Allegations of multiple gang rapes, heavy partying, and a culture of bad things. Its gonna blow up big.The Lt. Governor of Vermont tweeted about it yesterday.
I'm hoping our new assistant coach had nothing to do with it and no trouble flows our way in the aftermath.
As always, its innocent until proven guilty for all parties involved, but the sheer number of new complaints and accusations is troubling to say the least.

I have a great friend, and fellow UA grad, that moved to Naples from Albany about 5 years ago. PM me and I'll get you his contact info if you are still looking for folks to meet. #purplefam

I'm w/ you on Doles. I think he's a very solid/versatile big for the AE. I just don't think you need to be 6'11" to play center at this level.
Agreed, but I don't think the goal is to compete at this level. I think the goal is to compete in the OOC and compete come tournament time. We've seen some truely dominant players in the AE as undersized centers (Warney for example) that ended up having trouble in the OOC or Big Dance.
UA could definitely do well or even dominate the AE with a 6-8 or 6-9 "Center" and I'm sure all of us would be extremely happy with a winning team that has a chance to dance, but my hope is the school gets back to visions of grandeur and has the goal of outgrowing and outcompeting the AE, even if it never happens. Set your stretch goals to be able to compete with big schools and big leagues, and be happy when you reach the primary goal of being a team that wins the AE.

Neely is clearly the highest regarded HS recruit Albany has ever snagged since my time following.
Offers from Temple, VCU, and Washington State.
I don't remember exactly, but I think Jamar was highly recruited as well.

I haven't looked for it in writing, but I was under the impression that Champion said he was staying.
Consensus is the Hank, Shafer, Amica, Hutchinson were staying, but I have no confirmation.
Would be amazing if Healey got healthy and stayed, but I think he will be moving on.
Taylor, Doles, and JoJo are question marks still. I though I read Kondrat was leaving, but that could have just been his transfer portal entrance announcement.

Maybe I missed it... Did Healy sign somewhere yet, or is there a chance he comes back? Last year sucked for him still being injured, but I'd love to see that shot come back.

You should forward your suggestion for tonight's Zoom call and/or directly via e mail to Mark Benson's email: mabenson@ualbany.edu
I don't disagree, but since I don't run this board, I would never consider doing so unless the consensus on the board agreed we would want that, and those in control of the board wanted to implement it.

I'm as anti LCC as anyone on this board, but I do like one thing about their board... The have a section for chatting with Coach Carm.
Has anyone from this board ever approached the athletic department about a forum on this site? Maybe a section for Coach and leadership Interaction, with a separate thread for each coach and leader? We know they read the board, maybe give them their own section and keep them away from the craziness in the other sections?

SBU gets Olyani back from Miami for his final year of eligibility? Next year is looking bleak for UA unless DK can start filling out the roster, and soon.
My early top of the league at the moment has SBU, UVM, Maine, and Hartford.

Until we know who coach K is gonna convince to stay a d who he is going to let go, it's really a fool's errand to judge this first season, and the recruiting. We seem to be doing a decent job of offering some high school players that look nice for 22/23/24 already. At this point he needs to put together a roster that can compete at least to the middle of the pack right away. This will mean grad transfers and 1-2 year guys.
No neither of the first 2 signings are particularly exciting, but both are experienced, will fill short term needs, and could surprise.

I'll reserve judgement on any of the recruits until after I see them on the floor. I've been excited over recruits and I've been disappointed. The big thing is matching a players skills with the style of play you are going to have. Same player will have completely different stats under different coaches and in different systems.
BTW, look at Maine's recruits for next year. They got an athletic 7 footer that looks like he should be in the NBA, not the AE based on highlights....

It's called a "Full Cost of Attendance Stipend"
Many schools offer it today, including others in the America East. UAlbany does not offer it last I knew.

I'm sure it's something posted on Instagram that he isn't sharing a link to because of the crap we give him for posting Instagram links (justifiably). Definitely makes me giggle wondering what he is referring to with this thread, but since I have absolutely zero interest in using Instagram, logging into that site, I won't even research what this post might be referring to.
