  1. That was fun to watch at the end.  Stole one.  I thought they waited too long to foul Columbia's PG with 20 seconds left but it turned out alright.  de Sousa with some big shots, Lauderdale with a huge tip on the inbounds and then the foul on Healy sealed it.  Brown was pumped.  I liked to see it.  I know this team has some warts but they play hard and don't give up.  I think de Sousa is only going to get better.  I thought he played excellent defense tonight on Columbia's best player.  The announcers seemed to think so too. I really hope they start to click offensively because I think it's a good group of kids who really care and put max effort.

    I surrender and bow to the majority.

    Still rather win week in and week out and be competitive every year and DO NOT think this is going to happen in the caa. {like I said before HOPE I"M WRONG!}

    But pretty sure I'm not wrong when I say NO ONE on this blog will ever live to see UA in a major bowl game or for that matter even a minor one FBS. {nevertheless less, HOPE you all "LIVE LONG AND PROSPER" AND HAVE A GREAT HOLIDAY.}

    I would 100% agree with your last statement.  I don't think anyone is saying that we can or even want to go FBS. I just don't see it happening.  BUT I could see us competing for an FCS championship at some point with the right staff and right recruits and that would be absolutely FANTASTIC for the school, students, players, coaches and fans.

    Forgot to add, MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

    We only won ONE title in the first EIGHT years in the NEC (2002, the Duquesne game) and one in the last four (2011, NCAA first round.) Four titles total in 14 years, three losing seasons. And NEC teams give a lot more aid now than then, so no guarantee we’d have the same results, or the new stadium either

    4 titles in 14 years and no playoff wins in the NEC. I'm all for the CAA and honestly wish we would move there for all sports but I know that won't happen because of the funds it would take to do it.  One playoff appearance in 7 years in the CAA and a win in the playoffs and I thought we had the talent to compete with MSU but it just didn't work out. No way would I want to still be in the NEC.  Sorry ds.

    I hope you're right... To each his own but fans can vent or be overly positive. I wish I could turn it off or turn my attention to a different hobby... It's just sports at the end of the day but this sucks right now. I'll still cheer hard for these kids and staff. I'm sure for them this is even worse and more personal. ... Hope they prove me wrong.

    Last year was tough but we all understood the youth etc. This is a different kind of brutal. 2 years removed from Nichols and cremo.

    I go into every single game with hope that this one will be different... Sadly realization sets in once the game starts.

    Don't get me wrong. I'm as frustrated as anyone but it's hard to read the swings of emotions in the game threads. haha!  Start of the game everyone was happy. Then 10 mins of $iena and everyone loses their minds. I 100% get it but that's the ebbs and flows of a game.  Monmouth is not a bad team, they are well coached, we were on the road and almost won.  Probably should've won. I just wish it wasn't always so extreme to the negative. There is still a good bit of season left to turn this around and I hope they do. I don't know if they will though and if they don't I won't set myself on fire.

    Also, I'm gonna say it!  I'm gonna say it right now!  The core of this team is still young.  Healy, de Sousa, Lulka, Hanks, Rizzuto and I would throw Hutch in there are all very young.  Then there are the Jucos who are upperclassmen but basically freshman or sophs when it comes to D1 playing time. So I think this team can be good over the next couple years with the right mix of players added and current players growing.

  5. This place is getting a bit toxic and way too negative. Maybe I'm just overly optimistic and willing to deal with some down years.  We've had them before.  07-08 through 10-11 were at .500 or below and included a 7-25 season.  It happens.  They miss on recruits, they mess up with coaching in season, they take too long to find their rotation.  It happens to so many mid majors. I'm happy with the success we've had and agree with Patch that the staff probably reached to fill the roster when Cremo/Nichols left, some graduations and some transfers happened.   It is what it is but reading the game threads you would think this team was going to end up 7-25 again. It's a long season. We will see how they do once the conference schedule starts. They've sucked in OOC before and played well in conference.

    I don’t think the kids read the message board,  but enough people around them do that I am sure they were aware.   Now if you said Twitter or Instagram, they definitely see it.   I have seen some of the Clark/Nichols comparisons and they are really not good comps.  But it would take such a detailed basketball conversation to explain the differences it’s not worth it.  Don’t get me wrong. David was/is and forever will be a shoot first PG.  Trust me, I am a 30 year coach and we would battle and argue so no one knows better than me.  But David is also one of the smartest players I ever coached. And EVERY coach he has played for would talk about his knowledge of the game.   Often too smart for his own good to be honest. When David played for me, I would scream at him about what I though was a bonehead or selfish play, then we would watch the tape and damn it he always saw something I missed.  You all don’t see that not should you.   Fans should be fans and judge by what you see.   I never have or will have a problem with any criticism of his or any kids game.  Just not my cup of tea, even as a fan,  but have at it.  My only problem I ever have is questions of character, etc.  Too many personal biases seep in when people try to explain why someone does something.   We can disagree to our hearts content about the “What”, I get really protective over the “why’”.

    Oh and BTW, the story of Joe and David transferring was way more matter of fact than salacious.  Nothing bad, no hard feelings, none of that.  But that’s their story to tell not mine.

    Thanks for joining and contributing Coach Nichols. Fans can definitely be hard of these kids sometimes when things aren't going right but I think you will find, on this board at least, that it's rare that a young man's character is called out.  Maybe some did when Joe and David transferred since that was very hard for some to digest but overall we understand that these are good young men, good students and good representatives of the university. That is something that I think we can all agree on is that Brown recruits good kids.  Some may not live up to our expectations on the court but almost ALL live up to them off the court and in the classroom.

    Best of luck to you and your son.

    It's one idiot...not gonna judge the entire fan base based on one moron.

    Agree with Click.  Eli, don't be our version of that one fan! 😉

    So, when I watched the replay I watched closely to see where UA players were being "scumbags".  I would say it was a total overreaction by that poster.   There was one instance I saw where I think Mencer pulled the ball out from the guy right after the tackle, which was dumb but not a dirty play. There was definitely a lot of jawing going on but on both sides, which I have never liked but that went both ways. Their guys were getting in our faces after plays just as much as ours.  One was called and another on a WR screen was not called but should've been.  Yes, refs missed a couple facemask calls, one on them. So that poster was disillusion and I won't hold that against what seems to be a good and dedicated fan base.

    Thanks for the response Cledus and also being cordial as well. I'm not sure why but I'm still pissed about the way we lost that game.  I watched the replay yesterday and there was just a perfect storm of $iena for UA early in the game. Long TD run, blocked punt for safety, the punt returns sometimes deep into our territory.  Just stuff you don't see very often happen in that short of a time span in a game. Best of luck the rest of the way.

  9. Thanks to the Cats fans who signed up.  Good to have you here.

    Didn't get a chance to post during the game because we were having a party here and I'm still in a bit of a fog from a little too much bourbon. I knew this outcome was possible but I honestly thought it would be a closer and more competitive game. I don't mean this as a slight to MSU but more a compliment to our team..... I did not see a HUGE difference in overall talent on the teams.  In a few spots yes but overall I don't think we are that much worse of a team and just didn't play well. MSU is a really good team but I think Albany is also!

    I was very surprised at how well they passed the ball. I was really surprised with the special teams mistakes and long returns that truly killed us early in the game. Our kick coverage has been good all season. I was really surprised that we didn't throw the ball more and with more success.

    Oh well, it was a great season overall and hopefully something to build on.  Undercuffler with another year under his belt, some nice young players need to continue to grow and hopefully the new crop of kids coming in will be good and they will have another successful season next year.

    So, I'm sort of having an accidental watch party at my house. My wife and I met at Albany and both graduated from there in 1996. About a month ago we invited five families over for a bit of a holiday celebration Saturday starting at 3pm.  Four of them are friends from our time at Albany but none are really deep into following athletics. Only the games I take them to and updates I send to them(Yes, I'm sure that annoying for some but I can't help myself).  Anyway, on Saturday I'm hoping they enjoy watching the game because that is what I'm doing. haha!  I just hope the team has a good showing for these alumni who are all big sports fans but don't follow Albany sports like I do.

    Yea those stats are pretty respectable.  Obviously you guys watch the games and have a better gauge on it, but that as at least middle of the road, probably top 1/3.  But the best rushing team you've played is Albany who is 23rd in the country at 201 YPG, but you impressively held them to 100 even.  Next best W&M at #30/186 YPG and they ran for 184, so right at the average.  Then of course the head scratcher at Delaware, who only runs 156 YPG but ran for 225 on Albany.

    All in all it looks like on paper Albay has a pretty good rush defense.  But in the last 4 games the Cats have rushed the ball for 1,293 yards on 196 carries, good for 6.6 YPC and 323 yards per game.  Southern Utah did hold us to 176 yards on just 4.29 YPC, but that was a game that was 42-0 at half so we played extremely conservative in the 2nd half.  That was also a game where we tried to establish the pass and threw for 182 yards in the first half.  Rovig's steady improvement into a game manager has really helped soften the box and he can make enough throws to keep a defense honest, which is all we need and ask of him.

    We did a good job against SBU but they got down big so early that they didn't attempt to run a lot in the first half.  Second half they did with just a little success.

    can someone post the quote? I dont have access

    Senior defensive end Eli Mencer endorsed the idea. He said he's a fan of the Jurassic Park movie franchise.

    "I'm definitely excited,'' he said. "I've never been to Montana and I know there's not going to be too much stuff out there to do other than to just look at the mountains and whatnot. So to be able to go a museum and see some dinosaurs ... He's pumped about that, so I'm excited."

    Senior safety Josh Wynn didn't exactly share Mencer's perspective, though Wynn said he'll still have fun.

    "I am not a fan of perpetual lies,'' he said. "I don't believe in dinosaurs. You can easily fabricate those things. I think that if there were dinosaurs, they'd be excavated all over the world. We could dig some up back here at (Bob Ford Field), a little bit of construction. If dinosaurs roamed all over the earth, they should be everywhere."

    I see your team is going to visit Museum of the Rockies, and some of them don't believe in dinosaurs.

    Its a great museum that houses the largest collection of dinosaur remains in the US.

    I wonder if Wynn was kidding about not believing dinosaurs existed.  Either way, some funny quotes in there.

    I thought they played pretty well today. Just some key kids are a big liability right now. Need Jojo back asap... And rizzuto bench. Guy is tough to watch when he can't make a shot which has been often this year.

    I agree. Yale just beat UVM by 13, their only losses are to Penn St and Oklahoma St. They are a very good team and we hung with them most of the game even though we shot terribly from 3 and they shot great from 3.
