A UAlbany sports team returns to the campus of Hudson Valley Community College seeking its first conference win of the season. Our opponent, UMass-Lowell, has struggled this season, however, the River Hawks own a five-game winning streak at the moment.

Despite what has been posted here, Tyler Bertram expressed excitement about coming to UAlbany. He spoke with WTEN today concerning his commitment to UAlbany.
Perhaps, he got a tour of the ongoing renovations which persuaded him to come here.

Graber makes NJCAA Division III All-America team
By Bill Arsenault
Vincent Giordano / HVCC AthleticsSchalmont High graduate Payton Graber of the Hudson Valley Community College women's basketball team averaged 24.8 points and 9.4 rebounds this season.
Freshman Payton Grab-er wrapped up a standout season with the Hudson Valley Community College women’s basketball team by being named to the National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III All-America team that was announced last Tuesday.
The 5-foot-8 guard from Schenectady, and a Schalmont High graduate, led Division III in scoring most of the season and finished second with a 24.8 average. She led the 10-10 Vikings in rebounding (9.4). steals (81) and assists (61).
Prior to her latest honor, Graber was named Region III and Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year.
Trevor Green, a standout on the Hudson Valley men’s team, was named an NJCAA All-American honorable mention selection. Green, a 6-3 guard from Troy and a Lansingburgh High graduate, averaged 21.7 points a game and became just the fifth player in team history to better 1,000 points in his career. An all-around performer, he also averaged 8.7 rebounds with 107 assists and 53 steals.

No. Get better in an general sense. The team was so flawed year in every way imaginable. The are several ways to get better: Recruit better players , coach better, put a team together that is coherent, ect. Coach Killings had been a coach for a long time not to understand this and I think be does. One way or another the team needs to get much better.
Well, you and I agree one on thing, the team needs to get better. Yes, Killings understands this because his two prior institutions, Marquette University and UConn made head coaching changes, which led him to move on from his assistant or associate coaching position. I am of the opinion that his resume achievements are subject to debate in light of this season's record. With the departures from this year's team via the portal, the performance of the remaining student-athletes from 2022-2023 and incoming student-athletes, no matter how good they are, I feel just making the conference tournament will be a major achievement.

OK. I absolutely agree playing GOOD teams can be a very good thing. But just asking when is too much? I recently asked the same question in the men’s lax thread: at what point do the negatives out weigh the positives?
Basically a team plays UP for three reasons; to get BETTER; as a revenue source and as a recruiting tool. Just seems to me, lately none of these objectives are being met at UA. Pretty much everyone agrees the state of UA athletics over all has hit the pits. So I’ve been wondering and have asked for thoughts & opinions at what point should UA perhaps benefit from cutting back their aggressive schedules. Getting beat up physically & mentally does not seem to be working???
ps the 3 top teams in the AmEast all have played a far weaker OOC, yet they (especially Vt) seem to have their way with UA of late.
As I said to another Big Purple Fans blogger at the UAlbany - Northwestern WLAX game, 'We "happiest" when we have something to gripe about." Perhaps, you should show up at the Softball game against Syracuse and protest or as I will do come for the pure joy of being able to watch our team play, win or lose. Sometimes, you have to put some things aside.

For those of you, like me, who started to ask themselves, who is Tyler Bertram?
Tyler hails from Cooperstown, NY and Cooperstown High School, where he was coached by his father. Further, his Binghamton bio stated he had 20 D1 offers.
His college travels have taken him to UNC-Charlotte (red-shirted), Binghamton and UAB
He is 6' 3" and 170 lbs. somewhere he was 185 lbs. Hopefully, he works out this summer and balks up a bit.
UA1882, you stated "Need to get much better!" Did you mean recruit better athletes? If so, what did you expect after this year?

Like the Men, you want to play with the biggies, you got to have the horses, jockeys & the owners. UA no longer appears to have any of this any more {and I'm speaking UA sports overall.}
IMHO no such thing as "moral victories." Not much difference getting smashed or keeping it close when playing UP. Still a loss; and often the physicality of playing UP has a toll both physically & mentally?
ALL thoughts opinions WELCOMED.
Why should UAlbany teams just compete against teams in their comfort zone? No matter what the sport, playing against BIG10, the ACC or other power conference team, in particular, at home is a good thing even if the result is not a win.

The "Cuse comes to town for America East - ACC showdown. Much like the Great Danes the the Orange are struggling this season.

Once again, a loss is a loss: Great Danes fall 2-3 to the Bearcats.

UAlbany comes back and takes Game 2 by a 5 - 2 score thus avoiding a clean sweep of UAlbany team sports yesterday.

Women lose 21-11. Were only down 8-6 with 2 minutes left in the first half
You left out how entertaining the game was despite the score. A really good turn-out today.

Time to leave for Fallon Field to watch the women play.

I didn't get a chance to comment on what appeared to be a very good performance against UMBC, but today is a complete and utter disaster. This lack of preparation is what was happening at the tail end of our time with the program and is 100% on the coaches. Time to blow it up.
Scott Marr just signed a new contract, and you should know by now Benson is not going to do anything.

Just another "Great Dane Train Derailment Saturday" in conference play on the road.
Please Scott, you and your assistants need to find a plan and routine that works on the road, or this team will not make the conference tournament.
The score at halftime sets us up for one of our most lopsided losses if Bryant keeps up the scoring pace. No reason for them not to bury us deep in the ground.

UAlbany Softball loses to Binghamton 2-4 in today's first game.

I am hoping for a miracle this afternoon, starting at 5:00 PM.

What is worse, yesterday's loss 20-4 or today's loss 12-1?
Hard to make a choice.

Why am I wasting time? 6-2 and another ugly TO.
Could not have said it any better, Bryant with two goals in 9 seconds.

A total disaster, team was practicing yesterday before they left for Smithfield. Makes one wonder, what or who were they practicing for.

Danes hold off UMBC
Sports staff
The University at Albany nipped visiting UMBC 15-14 on Friday afternoon in an America East Conference women’s college lacrosse clash.
Sarah Falk’s goal with just two minutes, 45 seconds left put UAlbany in front 14-13 and Grace McCauley added another 59 seconds later to give the Great Danes a two-goal advantage.
Dymin Gerow’s goal pulled UMBC closer with only 49 seconds remaining but it wasn’t enough as UAlbany held on for the win.
The Great Danes improved to 7-5 and sit with a perfect 3-0 league record thanks to the victory.
Falk finished with five goals and an assist and Shonly Wallace had four goals to lead the UAlbany offense.
Gerow scored three goals and added two assists and Lauren Cremen chipped in with three goals for the Retrievers, who dipped to 6-5 and 0-3 in the America East Conference following the loss.
The Great Danes are right back at it on Saturday at John Fallon Field against 2nd-ranked Northwestern. Opening face-off is set for 5 p.m.
