Hoops practice

Recommended Posts

Just read the note about practice starting on Saturday. Found it interesting that it didn't mention Zoellner. Mentioned Jordan getting significant minutes, but no Zoellner. You'd think that they would mention a 7 footer when UA has not had any size in the last several years.

Reason for concern?

Also, professor, where are you? Trust you'll have some info once practice gets going next week.

I have no concerns - "Der Big Man" will be a major impact player for the Danes. He will be a legitimate inside threat offensively and defensively.

Also we should realize that we have "4" proven DI scorers in:

Jamar - 20ppg in AE play shooting 50% from the floor and 40% from 3 ROY and 2nd Team All AE

Lucious - 13ppg for 2 years in the MAAC - All Rookie and All Conference

Levi - 14ppg over 2 seasons - All Rookie as a Frosh

Iati - 14ppg and ROY

Let's hope we have some good chemistry and not too much rust on Jamar, Lucious and Kirsten.

Story in today's Gazette about the opening of practice.

Brown contends all five starters will have to battle to retain those spots.

'The cupboard here was empty when I took over...Now, when we open the door, there's something there'.

Story also called our 2003-03 ROY 'Jamal' Wilson and the 7-foot-1 center 'Kristen' Zoellner.

I'd almost add "Q" to that list as well. Maybe he's not a proven scorer but he's certainly a proven contributor who can have the occasional big night scoring. If he could handle the ball better he would be scary, a much better shooter than I thought he'd be.

It's funny to read the stuff about Juan Jose Barea being an NBA prospect when you think about Wilson's freshman year. He was clearly better than JJB two years ago, I hope he comes back this year and reminds everyone of that.
