Albany Upsets Hartford...Again

by: Craig Mroczka (1/27/2005)

Its Deja Vu, a glitch in the matrix, history repeating; or whatever you want to call it. Thats what I'm feeling right now. Last year the ladies beat a heavily favored Hartford team in the early season and never looked back winning 7 of their last twelve to finish 4th in the conference. Tonight it was much of the same as Albany downed Hartford 64-56. Albany was down early by as much as 10, but rallied with a 6-0 run to end the half and close the gap to 3, 29-26. Trailing 43-36 with just over 13 minutes remaining the Danes realed off 10 straight points. Danielle Hutcheson had 6 of her 15 in that outburst, and was capped off by a 22 foot Jen Schumacher trey. Maree Jones put the win on ice with clutch free throw shooting down the stretch as Albany cruised to victory. This win is very impoirtant on many levels. Scoring 64 points on the top defense in the conference has to wonders for the confidence of a time that was struggling offensively, we saw the emergence of Tanika Thrower (8 pts, 4 reb.) as a viable option at the point guard position, and Its a heck of a way to go into an important game against Boston University. Albany looked like a well oiled machine tonight. Crisp passing, good shooting, and smart defense all added up to a win tonight. If this continues Albany is poised for a run to the top of the America East standings. History repeating?
