BOLD VISION News

BOLDVISION only had about $8 million for athletics. But a longer version of this story in Saturday's Times-Union said Hall will emphasize scholarship over buildings, which on its face doesn't sound good for athletics facilities.

It also says UA's endowment is only $15.8 million, which seems shockingly low, although I knew it wasn't what you would hope.

A few of us from the Student Association met with Pres. Hall for lunch yesterday and I asked him in general about the "early retirement" of the Bold Vision campaign. While he is defintely a person to increase the University's focus more towards academics (and I'm sure he'd be the first to admit it), the way he described the new fundraising campaign actually included how it would do more to support athletics (and this is without my prodding of the topics of athletics). He showed that, specifically mentioning moving our football team up to full scholarship and DI-A level, athletics advacements requires a big investment in scholarhsips for our players for recruitment and retention for 4+ years. With the new campaign placing more focus on scholarships for undergrads, it is easy to see how he does actually incorporate (as sees it as a benefit for) our student-athletes and athletics program as well.
