Awards for AE Lacrosse were announced. Daquino, Thomaon, Resetarits, McSweeny and Rae were all first team. Jordan Levine and Steve Ammann were on the all-rookie team.

 

I'm not sure I understand the Player of the Year selection-UMBC junior attackman Brendan Mundorf. Merrick Thomson lead the nation in points per game with Luke Daquino 6th and they give POY to Mundorf? Thomson had more goals that Mundorf, Daquino had more assists and they both had more points than Mundorf.

let us just realize when it comes to awards, the AE screws us every time. They did it to Hutchinson this last year, they do it to us some how every year.

A very bold statement, considering "the AE" doesn't do anything but administer the awards. So I'm not sure how they could screw us.

The coaches vote.

 

You can assume that with two huge candidates on the UAlbany roster, that they split votes ... and the UMBC player snuck in to win. You have a guy leading in assists and a guy leading in goals, there will be some coaches who vote for each, and then some that think the player from UMBC didn't have as much help as the UA player and votes for him.

 

And then you have Binghamton and Stony Brook, and it would be in their best interests to vote for UMBC (since they probably recruit against UAlbany more than they recruit against the Retrievers).

 

That happens. The best player is not always the most valuable player. That is why all leagues should change the awards to MOP - Most Outstanding Player. 'Valuable' has a connotation that some people read too much into.
