TU article focusing on Gifford

Nice article focusing on Gifford. I hope he can make a big impact in the middle as that would be great for the next 4 years. That said, he only started a couple of games as a HS junior. The kid that started at Center was 6'4" - not sure why he didn't start but reading some articles on him it sounds like he improved quite a bit since last HS season.

I still think UA needs to recruit a point guard. I know that Iati and Lillis can play the point but I don't think that is their primary position. That Zampier kid was a PG that chose Yale - maybe there will be a recruit next season.

Nice recruiting class - this will be a very good team for the foreseeable future.

It's interesting what Brown said about Gifford. "He was king of unknown. He had played in very few tournaments and got very little exposure. I saw the young man and fell in love with him." Good scouting by our coach. Further Brown said, "Usually, when you get kids who are 6-10 at the mid-major, they're projects. . . . He's ready to play at the mid-major Division I level and make an impact."

I don't think that Brown is overhyping this guy. We have often been accused of that on the America East board.

It seems that our success in Division I is not going to decline after we lost a few players this year. This pattern of recruiting should ensure a quality program for quite a few years.

I was thinking when I read the article that Brown generally hasn't picked one guy out of a recruiting class over the others as a prized recruit. I'm taking that as a great sign and as Olddog said I don't think he's overhyping him, just excited about coaching him. I still will look more at the returning guys than the freshman next year but if Gifford can come in and play right away then that's fantastic.
