That's the press release. The story in today's TU has some quotes from the players. Apparently they were recruting players as late as a few weeks ago. You have to feel bad for the players as they feel decieved. Tough situation but really if they weren't going to support it they are better off without it.

Interesting remark from the MAAC Commish:

"We regret the loss of the Siena College football program in the MAAC Football League," MAAC Commissioner Richard J. Ensor said. "The league membership will conference call next week and decide how we wish to proceed with league operations. The NCAA requires six members to be classified as an I-AA football league, so the loss of Siena puts us under the minimum.”

 

I think he means six members are required to be eligible for a playoff autobid, not to be classified as a league.

I guess this means the Siena hierarchy won't have to cover up any more barroom assaults by their basketball players on their football players.

If a conference sponsors I-AA but is not playoff eligible then they are classified as I-AAA. They sit in on the NCAA I-AA meetings but can't vote. They can still sponsor I-AA in their conference though. See the Big South.
